Just saw Muse and Silver Sun Pick-Ups at Oracle Arena in Oakland. Wow, Muse has got to be one of the best bands I have ever seen live. They bring the energy with each and every song. Even my wife got into it! If anyone ever wants to check out a great rock show, check them out!

I have heard this from so many people..I enjoy their music but I just cant see them being the best live show ever. A band like Pink Floyd puts on a pretty amazing live show so I dont know how Muse can compete..I am going to get sucked into the hype and go, however.

Jester, compared to what other great bass players?
Funny thing about bass players you never hear anyone ever say wow what a great bass player so that is why I ask.

All in good fun of course.

You know the beatles.
John
Paul
Ringo
who was that other guy oh George.

Iron Maiden - Best band ever in the entire world of rock/metal IMO.
Dickenson
McBrian
Murray
Gers
Smith
Harris - the master mind of the entire band but yet not the big name anyone ever remembers.

AC DC
Johnson
Angus
Malcolm
Phil Rud
who was that other guy oh Cliff Williams

Judas Priest
Halford
Glen Tipton
KK Downing
Scott Travis
who was that other guy oh Ian Hill

Being a drummer I find it funny how Bass players in general always get lost in the hype.
The only Bass players anyone ever remembers are from the supper groups like Floyd - Zeppelin - Metallica - Chili Peppers
IMO you almost can't count Roger Waters cuz he was the lead singer.

I take it you play Bass and are like me - I know more drummers names than I do guitar players.

Just thought I share my odd observation - do othes agree or not?

I must be the only one that can't stand these guys? It's not that they just don't do it for me, but their music actually pisses me off. I don't really hear anything that amazing coming from their drummer either, but I've only heard their radio and satellite songs.

They are pretty good. My friend got me into them after he saw them live. Apparently they put on a hell of a show.

Muse is a great band, as is Silver Sun Pickups. some like them some don't. I like them both quite a bit.

Regarding bass players, J Dogg made some good points, I'll add to it.

Rush - Giddy Lee. Great bassist, song writer etc.
Motley Crue - Nikki Sixx. While he is not awesome, he is good, and the one who really put Crue together, writes the songs and put them on the map.

Ha ha! You got me J DOGG, I play bass. I'd put Wolstenholme in the top 20% of current bass players. Just about everybody knows his bassline from "Hysteria" (which has become the new anthem for teenage wannabe bass players trying out gear at the guitar shop), but he has other integral parts like "City of Delusion" and "Time Is Running Out". Personally, I think the toughest thing he does is playing 32nds for an entire song (Butterflies and Hurricanes) without a pick. I think all the guys in Muse are great musicians, although I can't speak as much to the technical skill of Matt or Dominic.

How did nobody mention Les Claypool? Not a technical mastermind like Geddy Lee, but the only guy in history that ever made bass the coolest instrument in the band!

Steve Harris is a BEAST, I think his incorporation of melodic basslines into heavy metal was way ahead of its time. Also, I'm willing to bet a lotta people don't know the bass player for Metallica, let alone the full lineup of them.

I sat through part of their show on last Saturday night when they played at Coachella. Hell of a light show but never really much of a fan of their music.
