my buddy asked whats the adavantages or disadavantages of having ur stance all the way out or in? i didnt really know what to say other than preference?
but doesnt a wider or narrow stance help balance, less knee stess, easier to land, etc...
just kinda curious on opinions?

| i would agree that a narrower stance is easier on the knees but a wider stance would make it easier to recover on not so perfect landings.

well also if you think about it the closer ur stance ur gunna be able to i guess apply more power to the center of the board than maybe a wider stance because wider u go the weaker u get.. if its in closer kinda seems like u cud control ur board faster because u have more strength than if its out wide.. idk its kinda weird i guess...
but why do u say its easier recover on landings? just curious kinda seeing all the benefits here..

| i meant easier to recover on bad landings -- i guess because you can go lower on your center when you're wider, that's all.

| I feel a wider stance allows more control over the board for me. I would say it slows down my spinning a slight, slight bit because of the lack of angular momentum (like spinning in a chair with legs in versus legs out), but I would rather have control over it than that little extra speed.

| holdsworth, kinda feels like ur lower to the board? because i know the narrower u go ur taller on the board so maybe not have much as control but im not sure.. i dont think i have ever actually thought about which one wud be better, thats why i was just kinda curious..

My normal stance is on a 144 Ibex, next hole from last each foot, ducked 18+ degrees each foot. Not sure on inner distance from binding to binding. It's a pretty wide stance for sure but nice. Doesn't feel like I'm low to the board but that may just be because no matter what stance, I'm at home on the board and anything works .

Think about this...you got two people of identical build and height, one is standing with his feet slightly less than shoulder width apart, the other with his feet wider than shoulder width. Now some guy comes along to push these people down, who will be more stable?
How do you position for feet when doing squats? What does a wrestler look like when trying to have the most stable stance? It's all about getting as wide as is comfortable for your body. You want your knees to be in a strong position to rotate naturally and for me that is as wide as the board will go.

well i mean were your doing squats and all that to wide and u loose power and to narrow u lose power.. idk i kinda like a just a little outside the shoulders but not all the way feels like i have the best balance but i mean its just my opinion..
i mean i understand why people that are taller go all the way out and people that are shorter go farther in just because of there height.. im 6 foot so i guess im average height..
Stephan, what do ride at as far as ducked out? im 21 degrees on the outside and 12 on the inside..

Obviously riding a narrower stance is going to be easier on the knees but it also takes away all of your control and most importantly your style. You have so much better balance with a wider stance. I ride all the way out and pretty ducked, not sure on the degrees but I know my front foot is slightly more ducked than my back.

I was hoping the photo would show the degrees on the up close shot but it didn't. I generally just set my board up 2 notches from all the way ducked, whatever degree that may be. The board is a 138 btw. Rides more like a 136 feel wise because the bindings are so close to the tip and tail but feels like a 138-140 speed/landing wise.

| i ride pretty ducked out, max 18deg on the LF watson bindings, and 2nd to the widest inserts on the gator legend. i'm 6'2" and i still felt going wider (farthest holes) was too wide.
