Just got my new toy, an oneill dry suit (boost suit). The ice finally melted here in WI and I'm getting the boat out for a run. I'm a little worried about random ice chunks flowing down (it's technically a river) but other than that I think i'll be fine.

Water temp is 39
Air temp looks to be 50 at best, but it should be sunny.

She's gonna be brisk. I'll be taking video of it as well so if you want to see me scream like a little girl, it will be happening Smile

STANG KILLA SS, you don't need a dry suit for those temps. Those are the temps we had last year in early April when we started out with the wetsuits.

lol stang I ride that in a spring suit. Were you serious or joking? Either way it's funny to hear especially because it shows the diverse crowd and what people are used to temp wise, but yeah man ice finally melted about a week ago and I've been trying to give it a little bit of time for the random ice chunks to clear in the river, hoping I dont slam any with the boat. I'll do a slow run checking first but ice is always moving..

Anyways I'll post up a vid so you can watch me lose my testicles inside my body.

Coward! Mr. Green

Hey, I looked at lake levels and temps yesterday and noticed Draper is way low...what's up with that? It looks like all our lakes around in the mid to upper 40's. It's getting close. If all goes well, we'll have our first outing towards mid/late May. We may be suiting it for a couple weeks.

Pretty normal for us, the water is around 3 degrees C this time of year, not sure what that is in F. Good quality drysuit and it's no problem.

EDIT - just looked, 37.4 F Very Happy

Height of the summer it only reaches maybe 16 C or 60 F

cool man, what do you all wear underneath the dry suit? Do your feet and hands become numb? Just trying to make sure I'm prepared, I don't have a heater or anything hooked up on the boat. I think I'm going to fill a cooler with really hot water and put some hand towels in it to wrap around my feet afterwards.

Two seasons ago my last surf ride was in 53 degree water in a spring suit. Probably the most uncomfortable I've ever been in water. I can't imagine 39 degree water, even in a dry suit. Let's face it, cold is cold!! Surprised

I wear a thermal undersuit and if it's really cold an extra T Shirt or something and it's toasty warm.

Hands and feet do get extremely cold, one of my friends has built in socks and gloves with his drysuit but I don't like them, I may want to wear skate trainers or surf barefoot or use my bindings so I prefer my feet uncovered.

One of the worst things is when you faceplant, almost freezing water shooting up your nose, in your ears, instant painful brain freeze, like you ate a whole tub of ice cream in one go, it can hurt quite a bit. Surprised

It wears off within seconds though and as long as you keep your hands and feet warm when you're back in the boat it really isn't that bad, warm water isn't a bad idea, we keep a stack of towels by the heater and wrap in them.

LOL I didnt think of that but I totally bet that is what happens. Not only do you get the pain from water injection, but insta brain freeze just to tell you how much you sucked.

Thanks for the heads up, lol Wink

Draper is supplied with water pumped in from Lake Atoka, however the pump is broke and they are working on it. So the lake has been lowered. Last I heard they were suppose to raise the water level before the season really gets going...

That is pretty amazing, but I have to ask:

Are you sickly yet? Razz I thougt I was seeing things, because it says your city is wausau, I live about 45 mins away, and was actually in Wausau on Sunday with my family, and I could barely handle being outside, muchless wakeboarding! Amazing!

PS: Kudoes to the poor lady who crawled in the boat in the waiters up to her waist! Shocked I think she deserved more than a high five! lol

Yeah we were really in wausau. 44 air temp, 39 or less water temp. I wasn't sick at all Wink It's all about preparation. It was unbearable if we were riding into the wind after my head was wet, but if we rode the other way I was fine. I've got one of these now so I can ride in disgusting nasty cold as long as I can find a spotter Smile

Its an oneill dive hood. I'm sure I look ridiculous but I don't care what I look like as long as I can ride.

yeah this heat wave is ridiculous, if the heat sticks people are going to be able to ride comfortably in wet suits in no time. This is nuts..

Personally, I love this weather! It makes me excited to get out on the water!
If it kkeps up, my friend and her bf and I might rent some jet skis and go out on Lake DuBay(his grandparents have a house by there) and ski it up!

Unnautrally warm for Wisconsin this time of year.....I am willing to bet we will have an AMAZING summer! Very Happy

We have some land on dubay with a little trailer on it. Plan on building a house in 5 years or so. We've got a malibu sunsetter and it throws a really nice wake if we sac it out, good wake even if you don't.

If you want some pulls this summer on du bay let me know. As long as you don't mind throwing some gas money my way, I certainly don't mind sharing some wake time with enthusiasts Wink

They are draining Draper for some repairs and it will not be back open until 2012. At least that's what my roommate said he read on newsok.com. If that is really the case then I bet thunderbird is going to be packed.....

I love crazy people! I really hate the cold to be honest, but if you dress for activites it can be bareable.

I ride a motorcycle year-round here in SC, and I set a personal record last year with a 9 degree F ride to work, 45 minutes, even hitting 80 for a very brief time. I figured the windchill to be like -65 or something like that!

Now my dad, he was the nut skiier. He's skied at least once every month of the year in MI! Literally had to dodge iceflows one timea nd almost got trapped on a lower section of the river (the rest of the lake was covered with ice, the river just doens't all freeze). Shocked
