How many out there use bindings that open up with a hinge? Which brands or models? I have not bought any yet but I am tempted.

I think CWB is the only brand that use hinge technology.
and I think they have a patent on it or something.
I've heard some love it and some hate it so you'll probably have to try them out for yourself.

I have the 09 Zeus Bindings by CWB.. I like them alot. They're easy in and out and feel great. They have an achilles pad which really holds your heel in. As far as the hinge goes, its an awesome design. I haven't had any problems with them at all!

Hinge Tech is only on CWB bindings and they do have a patent on it. As with every binding, some will love it and some will hate it.

My first set of "real" bindings were the '06 CWB Torq hinges. I loved how easy they were to get in and out of. Only down side was that the saltwater eventually rusted through the cables, even though I rinsed them after every use. The good news is the cables are simple to replace in the event that they do break. Boardersbestbuy.com seems to have the Zeus hinges for ridiculously low prices on a regular basis.

I've been using a form of CWB's Hinge boots since they came out. The original version, the reverse version (that points down) and the new side flip version. They all work as advertised, I think this years has a little harder time staying closed during a fall, but definitely locks your heel down.

They are all very durable and I would not worry about the Hinge failing. When it comes to beginners, the Hinge is awesome. It makes it easy to get in, especially if you are in the water, just open it up and tah dah!

I just sold a set of CWB Zeus' from 08. Excellent bindings and held up well. Only reason I sold was to go to a SS board, and wanted teh PB Floyd's to match.

The hinge worked out real well, but I still had to lace up. I couldnt' just slip in them and turn the hinge down, but the hinge did help.
