Picked up a MB Pro & need to transfer my itunes media to it from my PC. Looks like the best way is a back-up to several discs (DVD+R) and load them in the Mac?

None of my ipods are over 4 GB so they won't hold all of it.

I don't have them networked & my home internet is a very slow 3G router. So, I'm not super interested in paying for a MobileMe account.

Looking for any suggestions or warnings from anyone with knowledge.

Never worked with a Mac, but I found http://www.myfirstmac.com/index.php/mac/articles/connect-your-pc-to-your-mac-via-ethernet/P10/

Depending on your PC, you may or may not need a crossover cable.

I would personally buy a 16-32 GB flash drive before I burned all those DVD's, sometimes you can get some deals on em.

Brent87LT1, iTunes has a built-in solution. You will need to network them, which I suspect you already have in place even though you don't think you do.

Instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2358

All that it requires is the both computers are on the same subnet (i.e. connected [wired or wireless] to the same router).

Once you can see the shared library from the PC, you can drag & drop it in to your local library on the Mac. Depending on the size of the library, it could take a while, so be patient.

I did this for my boss who just got a new iMac but had his iTunes library on his old PC. Worked flawlessly.

In the end, both computers will have your entire iTunes library on them.

Good luck!

Thanks guys.
My modem is a simple little 3G USB router so it cannot be shared. I'll try hooking an ethernet cable between the two machines and see if that works.

Brent87LT1, you may just be able to hook a ethernet cable up to network (i.e. no crossover).

IIRC Mac computers now auto-detect and adjust accordingly.

If yours is "new" then you should be good.

I got it done last night. Couldn't find a cable laying around my office but had a stack of DVD+Rs. Figured it would be a good time for a back-up anyway. Took 6 discs & about an hour. Very simple.

This thing is freakin awesome! Fastest video editing I've ever had the pleasure of using.

Now if I could just load my Adobe Premiere Elements 8 in the skeet thrower...
