Im looking @ the above mentioned boat. We are new to the boating world except for Sea-doo's. Im not a seasoned boarder but would like to start getting better. This boat has, ackording to my dealer $9000 in options, but you know how that goes. My wife and I are wanting an entry level ski/wake boat and are looking at this along w/ a Moomba Outback LS 20 that has comprable options. The Moomba is carberated and is about $1100 cheaper. I dont know much about either so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also do the "big 3" offer any rigs that compare w/ the same price range?

Momba vs Tige... definately go with the Tige... sounds like a good deal.
no comparison in terms of quality... the Tige's are built a lot better...

(I prefer Malibu's or CC's, but that's just my opinion)

Thanks Jvanick! Does Malibu or CC (who is this) make an entry level boat for around $30k w/ tower, boardracks, ballast if not equip. w/TAPS, premium sound, trailer, cover, depthfinder and other stuff that I cant remember?

CC is Correct Craft, and no, you cannot get a brand new Malibu or CC with all those options.

That price on the Moomba sounds right, but the Tige sounds like a good deal for a brand new one...

CC is the company that makes Nautiques (Ski Nautiques, Air Nautiques, etc). For 30K the Tige sounds like a great deal. The 20i or Outback are what you need if you're looking for an entry level ski/wakeboard boat. The Tige should have the 'Life Plus 10K' warranty if it's an '03. That's a great structural warranty that even the big boys can't touch. I think you'd have a helluva time trying to find a Mastercraft, Malibu, or Nautique (CC) with those options for 30K. But, demo both the Moomba and Tige and decide for yourself which will suit your needs better Wink

If I were you for that price range I would buy a new Moomba Mobius LSV, the retail on them is in the 30's but they will take $28,000 (there is a huge markup in boats). It will throw a much better wake than the two others you are looking at. You should be able to get the outback down to around $22000, you just have to play a few dealers against each other, even if this means driving a bit to pick up the boat. The 20i doesnt make that great of a wake, and its real sensitive to how much weight you add.

I've owned a 20i for 3 years. Love it... Make sure it has the 315 horse power merc. Plenty of power. For boarding I have about 600 lbs in the front. Great wake for the size boat. If you slalom, get a flat wake at about 30mph...... Very solid feel..

Thanks everyone... FYI- the Mobius 20LSV EFI @ the dealer w/ same options was $35k. I figure for $5k I can live w/ the mid-engine Tige and a better quality boat. (not sure though??) What do you guys think?

Also I hear people talking about ballast's. Why dont the Tige's come with? How much do aftermarket ballast's cost and are they automatic? (electric)

Thanks everyone!!

That is a great price and between the two boats you originally mentioned I would get the Tige. We have been boat shoping a lot this year also and the 20i was my first choice until the deciding factor (my wife) made her decision. We will probably be getting a new 20V.

I really like the Moombas also and both are great boats. I would buy the Tige, but you should try to drive them both. From what I was told all the Tige's got a new hull this year except for the 20i. However, the 20i still has a great hull and with weight and the TAPS you should have a great wake for starting out.

As far as ballast goes, here is my understanding. Tige sells a semi-permanent plate system for the boat. Then you can also get an internal water ballast system for about $3000 more. Then you have the TAPS. A "triple-threat" system. Smile We aren't getting any in our boat since I am a beginner and my boys are just little. We figured we would want a bigger boat by the time we need a bigger wake.

Good luck. I think you will be happy with either choice. If you are looking at the Mobius LSV, then resale might be a second consideration. I don't know that it is 100% true, but it is a pretty solid perception. Most people think of direct-drives as ski boats and V-dries as wakeboard boats. The direct drives seem to be harder to resell. If that isn't a concern, don't worry. It doesn't bother us either.

xray, yea I know thats the retail price, but I was able to get them down to $28,000 for a new LSV, with ballast, wakeboard pro, tower speakers, and a few more options. Boat dealers will go way down on the price of a new boat. A close friend of mine use to be a rep for Supra, she said the retail price is pretty much double of what the dealers pay.

That is a great price for the Tige, but If you can get the moomba LSV for 5k more I would strongly encourage that from a boarding standpoint. That is THE hottest entry level V-drive on the market. Puts out a top of the line wake (been behind one several times and it also Tows the Gravity Games a pro contest). If you plan on getting into boarding at all you would definately prefer the room and wake the LSV has to offer.

Being new to the boating thing you will eventually need ballast (extra weight to make the wake bigger) it is a must have for any boarder. Ballast system is key to boarding. Trying to hide ballast in a direct drive (mid Engine) is not easy at all. It takes up valuable floor space. The ease of a ballast system is one option to consider. All you have to do is flip a switch and the bags empty and fill on their own pretty much. It's so much easier than trying to fill sacs every time, with an exterior pump which by the way will leak everywhere. Putting in an aftermarket system will run around $1000 give or ake depending on exactly what you want. Also Check out the configuration of the V_Drive you will definately appreciate that IMO. So much more storage and people freindly. Almost any boarder will tell you that.

From a resale standpoint, a v-drive will hold its value much better. The engine option also will play a factor. A fuel injected engine will boost the price for sure in the long run. Most every new boat sold on the market is fuel injected. Moomba is a quality boat that has emerged to play with the big boys. Most people on this board will tell you the same. Their customer service is great. The boat is solid. I would take a look into that if you plan on boarding in the future. You won't ever out grow the Moomba LSV in my opinion.

In closing the Tige is a solid boat no doubt about that, but from a boarding standpoint an LSV would be so much more beneficial in the long run IMO for sure. I would think it would be worth the 5k more now than having to upgrade later on down the road. If you do want to upgrade to a CC or Malibu later anyways, the LSV will hold its value a little better and will be much easier to sell than the Tige.

I would also look into the LSV. You can definitely find them cheaper than 35k. Shop around a little and you'll be surprised.

Thanks everyone...Looks like this decision will take much more consideration than I thought. The wifey and I will more than likely just wait till next year and get a V drive. That way I can do more research to find what will be a nice boat for many years to come. This way we can get into a 21 or 22 as well.

Once again thanks for all of the reply's. I have diffenetly found a good website w/ knowlegable people Shocked
