Has anyone every used google checkout to buy a boat? I was told i put the money into google checkout, the boat is shipped to me and I get 5 days to check it out and if its not as advertized then i ship the boat back at the expense of the seller and I would get a full refund. Is this correct? Thanks for the help

I haven't used that before but it sounds to good to be true. Be very careful!

If you don't mind me asking what boat are you looking at? I was looking at a 2008 Centurion and the guy wanted me to do the same thing. I haven't messed with google Checkout but I just wonder if it is just another thing to make scamming easeier or something.

2007 Tige rz2. The boat is 18 hrs away from me but its a once in a lifetime type deal. He said he had some serious financial problems and the boat had to go asap. I read the guidelines to google checkout and Im going to give them a call today to make sure its legit.

I have never used google checkout for a transaction that large. There are a number of boat scams that have been on the market so be very careful. Where was the boat listed?

If you are worried, use escrow.com. I used it for a motorcycle and it worked well. they dont release the funds until you have inspected your boat. cost a few dollars, but worth it for safety.

I think I had someone try to use this on me. It sounded too good to be true so I didn't use it. Ask if he has a loan on it, which he probably does, and ask to talk to his bank. I bought a boat from across the ocean with some money up front and the rest once I had the boat and just because it says google checkout doesn't mean it's the actual site. Just sayin.

did you find the ad on craigslist or anything?

lots of boat scams around there right now. I inquired about a couple and they said that they have it at a shipping center that holds the money till i get it, then i approve of the money going through. But i called, and these "shipping centers" didn't even exist.

yes the ad was on boat trader for 2 days. Google checkout doesnt have an accout that holds the money. It works like pay pal. He says he paid cash for the boat and has title on hand. He ownes a few hotels in DC but lives in Minnesota. Iv decided its a scam

best way to find out if it is..

get a phone number were you can speak to him
tell him you found a plane ticket for real cheap and would like to come up and take it out for a test run..

then see what he says to that.. because by no means should you buy this if its a scam or not without taking it for a test drive on the water.. trust me i made the mistake of not testing out one and within 2 trips motor went bad.. DO NOT BUY WITHOUT TEST DRIVING IT!! just my 2 cents..

I did get a phone number and spoke to him. he was open for anything I wanted to do. I told him I wanted to drive up there to look at it and he said ok. with him being so open to anything I wanted to do is what kept me holding hope that this was not a scam lol.
