I had to laugh so much this weekend, had some killer sets and STILL trying to crack my W2W. Everything is right, we shortened the line up to 55 and I was consistently hitting the knuckle, then my face plant fear kicks in and I let go - doh.
So my mate says alright we'll give this a rest and I'm going to put the line out to 70 so you can see what it's like to get real height. So I go out, do everything the same, then bang! Nail the wake, straight down the other side and manage to keep the handle.
Needless to say shocked the hell outta me. But at last, I've done it
So I figure mixing up the line line lengths to confuse me is the way to go. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore! |

Congrats I'll never forget my first w2w, I'd been landing the crest for so long, and landing hard, that first w2w was sooo smooth. Great feeling, keep it up. _________________

I must say I've never heard of anyone who couldn't clear the wake at 55 then went to 70 and hit their first w2w Awesome job though. Stay at 70 feet, it will teach you to use much better technique. _________________ Liquid Force

LOL my trick is to look where you want to go (I look out in the flats in hopes of landing out there) and don't lay off your edge at the wake.......keep your edge through it. |

also not a good idea once you start doing more advanced tricks
when we teach people at our school, our rope only goes to 70 ft.. it's definitely a lot easier to cut out and back in with that much line. when you have only 55 ft it can be pretty hard |

pat mcelhinney teaches the "look at the shore your headed to" technique at his school camps. and i must say it works amazingly well. made a tremindous difference in our riding. _________________

Well my major problem is that because of my rubbish back I can be round shouldered and folded over from the top, so lose the ability to pop. That and sometimes I don't concentrate and the handle comes away from my body, so by the time I land, my arms are straight and I'm being pulled forward - hence the letting go as there's nothing to give back to the boat.
But it's getting there. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore! |

Glad you're starting to figure things out. Now the trick is to be able to do it consistently. I'm still working on that, myself. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

| Hey Emma - nice work - I've seen you ride and you have great board control. my wife has the same faceplant fear as you and it's consistently led her to bleed off the speed and dull the edge at the last second where she ends up getting off axis casing and everything in between-we continue to work on the little details one at a time-bad habits and attitude are tough, but she's finally landing a few...sounds like you know what you're doing wrong - just concentrate, hold that edge keep that handle close to the waist and square the shoulders you'll be hitting the flats toeside before you know it - she runs about 18mph at 65 feet -practice practice practice... |
