So I've never been to a NFL game. Friends and I got tickets to next Sunday's game in Buffalo. It will be freezing.

So-in the north, what do you wear to a football game to stay warm? I'm guessing long-johns, long undershirt, sweatshirt, big coat toque and gloves?

I would be sure to bring those hand a feet warmers as well. They are a must at any Bears games I've been to in December onward. Be sure to wear warm socks (possibly a couple pairs) and warm shoes.

One thing to keep in mind is that a Buffalo Bills game in December is not about style. You will see people wearing their bright blue 80s snow pants.

Layer up, take care of your extremities and make sure your clothing is some what water resistant. Nothing worse then having your toes feel like they are going to fall off.

Layers... I'd have long-johns, hat, hood, extra pair of socks and a good pair of gloves. Your feet and hands will get cold, so don't bring crappy gloves

Wear a Patriots jersey - at least you'll be rooting for the winning team that day Smile

I'm going to Jacksonville - Patriots the following weekend. I'll probs wear:
tights, jeans, uggs, tank top, ls shirt, pats hoodie, and my huge brady jersey over it all.
I always bring gloves and my Pats scarf, plus the hand warmers as well. Drink enough before the game and you won't realize how cold it is until the 3rd quarter.

Paint insulates heat better than long johns

arof - I have quite a few. Sadly, I have a feeling that you and your fellow Bills fans would not treat it properly. Enjoy the game - I'll be rooting against ya Smile

Don't forget to get there early to take in some tailgating. I haven't been there in mid-December, but it's a pretty cool experience.

I went to the freezing cold Pats playoff game a few years ago and I survived. Foxboro can be just as freakin cold as upstate NY.

Just bundle up.

OK.

So this is what i'm thinking:

-feet warmers, good warm socks, shoes
-long johns, jeans, snowpants
-undershrit, long-sleeved T, sweatshirt, snowboard coat, Aubs biggest pats jersey
-toque, scarf
-gloves
-beer

Should be good? Are the snowpants overkill?

I wouldn't wear a Pats jersey to a Bills game. Frustrated, drunken, rowdy Bills fans are easy to piss off. You have to remember it's a blue collar town with massive unemployment and a crappy football team and they have been tailgating for hours on end.

arof - Bring them - you can always put 'em on/take 'em off and leave 'em in the car before you go into the game.

ScottyB - There are MUCH worse drunken/rowdy fans to be around than Bills fans.

Have you ever seen Bills fans? I have seen multiple people get their assess kicked, beers dumped on them, beer bottles thrown at them, spit on, etc. for wearing the other teams clothing. ESPECIALLY after the game because the Bills usually lose because they blew it on a stupid play.

Scotty - Yes, I have. I've been escorted out of a game by police because Jets fans got too rowdy and were throwing bottles and stuff at me. There are drunken/rude fans at every game, but Bills fans are definitely not the worse.

ontrider - Perfect example. Or a NYY shirt in Philly - that's just as bad now.

it cracks me up when nfl fans act like they're rough on opposing fans. you have nothing to worry about wearing a pats jersey in buffalo or a giants jersey in philly if you behave yourself. try wearing an arsenal shirt in rome before a champions league game. you can get knifed walking for walking down the street in the wrong colors. there's nowhere in this country i would be uncomfortable wearing my colts jersey. maybe that's because i don't act like a dbag though.

never said they were the rowdiest. I'm not trying to have a pissing contest about it. I'm just telling the guy to be careful.

Agreed. See below.

Not necessarily. Story time:

I attended the AFC Championship Game in the 1993-94 season. Chiefs @ Buffalo; Montana v. Kelly. Drove all the way up from KC with my dad and a few of his friends. I was 18. We caught a bunch of chit walking into the stadium, but nothing too bad. The people sitting around us LOVED us for making the trip by car. It was friendly until we got to halftime and it was a close game. Then we went to the bathroom and things got ugly. We walked to the door for the pisser and three guys stopped us and said, "There are two kinds of people we don't allow to piss in there....Chiefs fans and n*ggers (not naggers)."

My dad's friend basically calls their bluff and says he has to piss so bad he is going in and starts walking past them. He got his jaw broken on the first punch and hit the ground. We pull him off to the side and go get a security guy to tell him what just happened. Cops showed up, took both sides of the story, then arrested my dad's buddy for starting a fight. We held it the rest of the game. It was painful.

Granted this was in the heyday of Bills football when they were losing Super Bowls, and their fans were pretty rowdy, but we were completely normal and didn't do anything out of line. We knew our place in the element we were in. My dad's friend did NOT have a broken jaw coming-he was even trying to be nice about going to the bathroom and laughing about them saying we couldn't come in, trying to take it in a good-natured way.

I'm not saying this is going to happen, just saying I've seen it happen in that stadium.

Your list is pretty good. Double up on the socks and wear water resistant shoes. I always wear a thin pair of gloves under my nice gloves.

I don't enjoy going to away NFL games any more. Too many jackasses everywhere.
