Alright so me and my friends have a flag football team for intramurals on campus.

Anybody have some ideas for some plays. I know I'm probably going to get a lot of sarcastic stuff from most of you Laughing but hopefully get some good plays too.

Its 7v7, everybody is a eligible reciever. Any ideas just draw it on paint and post it up.

In all seriousness, what are the rules? Does ANYONE have to stay in to block? How many guys are allowed to rush the passer? Do they have to stand for a 3-5 second count before rushing or can they just come after the QB?

I have several plays in my head from college intramurals and NFL Air It Out teams, but these plays differ based on whether you can send 6 out or if it is more like 3 because of the rules.

No one has to stay in and block, but the defense can rush as many as they want to, and they don't have to wait, when the ball is snapped they go. Usually they only rush 1 or 2 though.

Crossing routes vs man defense.

multilevel routes vs zone

FTW

Here is an old favorite that-if run correctly-is pretty much the only play you'll ever need. Works for either defense that eeven73 mentions, combining crossing routes with multi-level routes:

Easy to change up a bit as well, either in the huddle or at the line, by having 1 and 2 switch routes every so often or by having 2 and 3 switch routes but have 3 run his short route in the opposite direction as it is drawn here. Every so often, #2 should run straight up the field while #1 and #3 flatten their routes out more so that they aren't drawing coverage toward #2. When you do that, #4 needs to run his route really short but must run all the way to the empty space where 1, 2, and 3 crossed and then busted out deeper down the field.

The key is to always have #4 running into the space vacated by the other 3 so that it is impossible to defend regardless of whether they are playing man or zone. If it is zone, #4 will almost always be covered but you will be making the deep defenders choose who to cover and someone will be open. If they shift the zone deep to cover #1, 2, and 3-there will be a hole in the zone to hit #4 and patiently pick them apart.

If they play man, the combination routes will rub defenders away from #1, 2, and 3 when they cross with one another.

If they send more than 2 guys, then #4 and #2 have to be responsible for seeing the blitz coming and running their routes MUCH shorter so that the QB is able to quickly get the ball out to them.

I like the play that pet575 drew up. Taking that same play, have the QB roll to the right with the center and left guard blocking the rushers and pushing then to the right. After holding their blocks for 3 counts, the guard releases and goes up field and should be open since the receivers are all deep and/or to the right. The center releases out left and should be open since the receiver lined up to the left is crossing to the right.

Other plays that can work well in flag FB, and that could be run in this formation are shuttle passes and screens. Run plays can also be effective, especially if you have a guy with some speed.

I know, I'm a dork. I played ball in junior high and high school, and our dorm had an intramural flag FB team. I enjoy coming up with plays and analyzing them. Where do I send my man card?

pet575, That play is money. We had practice tonight, and that play has at least 1 person open every time against man or zone.

Aubs, That would be awesome! Thanks.

Wherd. I'm telling you, adjust one route or flip-flop them every so often as I described above and it will work flawlessly. You just have to tweak it enough so that the defense doesn't know what each guy is going to do before the play is run.

I should also add that, since #4 will be running pretty much the same route every time-you should have him switch out with another guy every so often. That way, he gets a little variety and the defense (if they aren't very sharp) will have trouble noticing that it is the POSITION that is running the same route rather than "the guy in the blue shirt" or however they identify HIM individually.

Also, as someone mentioned above, if they drop an extra rusher to take away #4's underneath route then you should send one of your blockers on an out route into the space where #4 came from.

This system is all about the QB knowing which guy will be open in the cluster routes in the matter of about 1 or 2 steps after the routes begin to cross/combine. Holding the ball too long will kill the play. So will forcing the ball downfield if they start taking away the deep routes. Be patient and pick them apart if necessary. It will eventually loosen things up downfield.

Enjoy your championship. Make sure you post up your results afterwards.

Hook and ladder works really well in our 7 v 7 league. Also, the center dump. I didn't read through, so I'm not sure if you told us your QB rushing rules, but if you can't run until you are rushed, snap the ball to someone next to the QB, and now the QB is also an eligible rushing threat, so they have to watch that too.

Horvath, The school is gay and is pretty strict about the team names. I'm surprised we got to use Urine Trouble.

We tried to go with GDI's first (G.D Independents) because we'll be playing against the fraternities, but that didn't fly witht he school lol.

Double overtime tonight. Close to the end of regulation we were down by 8 drove down and scored, had to go for two (ball on 5 yard line.) I scrambled for what seemed like forever, sideline to sideline, and finally saw someone open and scored the two!

Overtime we both scored and both failed on the pat. 2nd overtime the get they ball first, and we get an interception.

So we have the ball, and the finally decide to start defending what has been working for us the whole game. Comes down to 4th down about the 5 yard line. WR runs a beatiful corner route and I put right over the defenders head right to the corner of the ends zone and TOUCHDOWN!!!

Sorry I'm just excited right now Laughing That game was exciting as hell, and it was against one of the better teams too.

I threw for 5 touchdowns, and our rb scored like a 50 yd TD on a simple option. We were freakin pumped out there it was a lot of fun.

DCdave56, Yea were running pet575's play, and it woks pretty well. Also runing several of the plays you sent me as well, and variations of some too.

Pretty much we come out and run the option first play every game. Run a short pass then the option again. We get the other team thinking option, and biting on it hard, then we just toss it right over their head to a wide open reciever. As soo as they don't respect the option we hit them with it again. Its been working really well.

ohsix, I don't know if your being serious or not Laughing But if you are talk to DCdave, he'll send you a whole playbook, and if you have any other questions just ask me.
