I just bought a 12 inch kicker L7. I was told that it was a good sub (I know very little about stereo equipment), now I need an amp to power it and a good box. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on the amp (power, brand etc.) and what and where to purchase the box and amp. Thanks

L7s r awesome speakers...but ur gonna hafta get a huge amp to get the full potential out of it...they hold like 1000 watts rms rite? or sumwhere in there...im sure it'll sound good w/ a lower wattage amp too but i'd get like a fosgate bd1500 or summin w/ alotta power...

Ok, ikesounds.com, but I do not know what kind of amp and box to get. Should I get a kicker amp or is there a better amp or one with the same quality for cheaper? And what size amp do I want? thanks for the help

i have 3 of the L7 12's in my truck and I can tell you the box is important because they sound better in a deeper box. The specs will say they can go in a smaller box but in my opinion they hit way harder in a bigger box.

did you build your own box for the three 12s or did you build it? also, is 1 1200.1 jbl amp too much power?

thanks,

if you have the room build a vented encloser, the sub should have came with a spec sheet with suggested enclosers. The bigger vented box slams, any of the three will sound good, the sealed enclosers work well also, bass is a little tighter just don't seam to hit as low.

As for power, these subs do like lots of power. At least a 500 watt d class or better to realy get them to move well.

Good luck with your system

you should try and follow the recommended enclosure size. Sometime a sub will hit deeper in a bigger box but it also lowers the power handling and lets the cone of the sub over stretch and can blow the speaker or damage the spider. A sealed encloser always will handle more power but have less volume than a vented enclosure. The vented enclosure will have a boost at whatever frequency the vent is tuned to. Don't just build a big box and mount the speaker in it. Like I said it may give you deeper bass on some notes but it will completelly eliminate the ability to reproduce normal tight bass notes in the upper frequency ranges.

Would you suggest going with the 1200.1 jbl amp, or would you go with something else. I may upgrade to 2 12 inch L7s but may keep it at only 1, depending on how it sounds. My main concern is that 1 1200.1 amp is not too much power for one 12 inch L7.

I think the rms for the 12L7 is 750, right? for the JBL 1200.1 amp the rating is "RMS Power: 600W x 1 @ 4 ohms " I dont think you need to be worried.

CHAZZHUSTON,
The box is custom built and it takes up the entire back of my tahoe. The bigger box works out better. My truck hits so hard you can't even sit in it when the stereo is cranked up. Also you should be able to run that amp with the sub.

I just checked you profile, that is a tight set up. You have three 12 L7s? I just want to order a box, do you know a website and what box I should order? I want to order a good box and not have to worry about building it or anything like that. I just picked up a Mercury Mountaineer, so I have lots of room in the back.

Keep in mind that if you are going to add a 2nd sub, make sure what ever amp you go with can handle the ohm load.

Chazzhuston,
Yeah I have 3 L 7 12's. I'll try and get a pic up of what the box looks like. You should be able to go to any car stereo shop and get a box. You could try crutchfield I think they have boxes for the L 7 12's.
