|

Hi everyone,
I just experienced an ACL tear. Surprinsingly not as painful as anticipated. however recovery and process seems significantly more exhaustive than planned.
I need help from anyone who can recommand an EXCELLENT surgeon for this. Does not matter where the doctor is. Apparently, i need to have my ACL replaced...
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

James Andrews in Birmingham, AL is probably the best known orthopod with regard to knee, elbow and shoulder surgery. He has treated a lot of athletes, and did an ACL/MCL repair on a friend of mine many years ago. He was happy with Andrews and the outcome. _________________

I have no idea where your located. But I've had 3 knee surgeries all done by the same doctor. His name is Doctor Dirk Dugan. I've had amazing results with him. He is located in Ithaca, New York. He's the only guy i go to when I messed up my knees. _________________ Go big or go home. |

THanks for all for your input.
I ended up flying to orlando, FL and had surgery with Dr. Michael James Ray. I was impressed with everything. Not much pain after surgery, everything went smooth. Now in week 4 of physiotherapy and that's going very slow... |

how'd you tear your ACL? that's probably one of my worst fears, summer is one of my favorite times of years, all summer long without riding would be dreadful =( (not to rub it in or anything)
but good luck |

your done for a year. might be back in 10 months. and should always wear a knee brace after your knee is fixed. Had mine done 2 years ago and they replaced it with 2 new ACLs in the same knee. I guess to make it twice as strong. Havnt had a problem yet. knock on wood. You could wakesurf or wakeskate after 6 to 8 months. But I would'nt strap in for at least a good year. |

Reading that doctor's name made me laugh. Reminds me of the days of prank calls and pages over the intercom. I know, it's childish but I've had a rough week and I needed a good chuckle. _________________

Grats. Be careful. I've had 4 major knee injuries (2 acl (1 w/cartlidge), 1 mcl and 1 cartilidge). Now I wear braces on both knees and I've had no problems since.
Your #1 ally for prevention is quad strength. Do 1 legged squats every day. 20 or so on each leg. It will be tough at first but keep pushing. Once you can do that, do them with your eyes closed. Your quads will be super strong and your wakeboarding will improve.
Good luck, be careful. surgery sucks, as I'm sure you know. _________________ Don't listen to advice from people who can't land that trick. My list:
