| Can anyone give me the good, bad, and ugly of this boat? Any known problems related to this hull and engine combination (boat has Indmar engine). Any help is appreciated. Going to go and look at the boat on Thursday. |

The older Moombas are prone to have many issues. The Engine Tranny will probably hold up just fine, but the rest of the boat will be questionable.
Its Truely a Ski boat... since you are on a wakeboard forum... I would assume you want to get a good wake for boarding. I think you could find better boats for your desired activities. _________________ Always looking for others who ride on Norris Lake in TN

Stang Killa,
I am coming from nothing. Actually have had boats my entire life (Center Consoles for fishing, which is what we have now). So, this will be just another toy to play with. The asking price is $5500, which is really low compared to other boats I have seen. My budget is right around 5K, which is why I inquired about your 2001 SN.
What problems with the boat itself are you speaking of Kyle? |

Thats cheap if the boat is in any kind of good condition..
I paid 14k for a 99' in may, but its in awsome shape with 160 hrs.I have it for sale no for 14k, gonna get a wakesetter pretty soon.
As others have said its not a wakeboard specific boat but it gets the job done.I run the factory ballast (550) and another 550 in between the engine compartment and its decent. No problem w2w or anything.
I havent had any trouble out of mine and I ran it every day I was home this summer. The gauges have a short or somethin, they come and go but I never bothered to fix it.Screws on windshield rattled loose from the vibrations but I put locktite on em and all is good.Just little things. _________________ A bad day on the water beats a good day at work! |

| Funny you mention about the gauges. This seller states that his gauges dont work either. The boat appears to be in ok shape. The trailer looks rough, but there are no obvious tears in the vinyl, the engine looks ok with minimal rust and some oxidation on the gelcoat. |

I had a 97 outback with 700 - 1000lbs of ballast. I have had outlaw riders do their thing behind that boat....BUT....they didn't do it big. I progressed behind my outback as did alot of my friends. I now have an EPIC and will NEVER look back.
For the coin, the outback is ok, I started to see problems with the floor because of weight in the back. The engine and tranny were fine, any problems were inherited. My gauges never failed me. What really got on my nerves was the low freeboard, passing a 24lsv was murder or a trolling cabin cruiser, nothing could ever stay dry for the full day.
Other than that, it was a good STARTER boat for us. _________________ www.myspace.com/nxracer2001 |

Tynx,
That is the vibe I am getting as well. The boat is a good starter boat and does nothing great, but can handle a wide variety of tasks. What sort of problems did you see in the floor? I ask because these are things I need to look for when going over the boat. |

That is a good Price for a toy, especially if you will be keeping your other boats.
As mentioned above, the little things are what these boats are famous for. They were just not High Priced High quality boats at the time period you are looking at.
I am not sure you will find anythign in good shape for 5K. I was thinking of referring you to the buget wakeboard boat thread, but most of them are over 5K. _________________ Always looking for others who ride on Norris Lake in TN

the plank above the shaft and running gear bowed in, the floor on either side bowed up. But that could have been because of the bilge (worn out packing and forget to hit the bilge pump switch) and sacs always there keeping it all wet all the time.
On a different note, we had a Monster tower on there that was there when I bought it and the gel coat cracking was minor. If I had better backing plates underneath then there would have been no cracking. The rest of the gel coat held up great. There is flex in this hull, sometimes I felt the floor bow up under my feet when driving - but then again I was mackin over some 24LSV rollers. I never saw any problems from that, we rode that boat hard and in ways it wasn't designed for, she held up! _________________ www.myspace.com/nxracer2001 |
