From what I understand they do not leak. And you most likely can install them on any boat. I'm gonna call my dealer to make sure because you have made me curious! |

Skobi1, A Packing Gland keeps water from flooding into your boat via where the prop shaft goes through the hull. so there is a pack of material and grease to keep the watter out side of the boat. there is usually a drip box, the little black thigny that you can open up to see the prop shaft. the watter usually drips allitle bit. _________________ wakeboards

My boat was stored in a slip on the water for a few months last summer. There was no water in the bilge at all - they work great! Don't know about installing them on any boat - mine came from the factory with one. |

Don't worry about dripless - the packing is so easy to replace - My packing gland was leaking way too much and I did not want to tighten the packing nut -- because the packing material was old and most likely hard. (that would score the shaft). It took me about 25min. to replace the packing (the first time I did it). The packing costs about $3.00 - $6.00 and there will be a lot left over. |

When your boat is in neutral, there should be no drips at all. If your boat drips when just sitting there, you need to either replace the packing or tighten the packing nut a bit. The packing should drip (say once every 5 seconds or so) when you are in gear.
I your battery dies when you are a long way from home and your boat leaks through the packing, your bilge will not work and you will need a bucket to bail water. |
