PostPosted: Sep 03, 2009 3:45 am    Post subject: Just Waiting For The Stones To Pass Reply with quote

Spent yesterday in the hospital making one large kidney stone small enough to pass from the kidney to the bladder. Absolutely mind numbingly painfully brutal.

Now that the stones are in the bladder what do I have to look forward to? The female nurses tell me it'll burn a little when they come out but the keyword is female. They say the tube from the bladder to the wiener is larger than the tubes from the kidney's to the bladder, true?

They sent me home with Napraxon for swelling, Percocet for pain and Flowmax for flow. Good enough? The Percocet seams a little light if it's going to be more than a little burning, no?

Thanks

lcap I am so sorry man. Having kidney stones is one of those terrible moments in life. I had them and once they passed into my bladder, it was all downhill from there. The passing out of the body wasnt nearly as bad.

Take it easy and I hope it all goes well. I have talked to ladies who have had kids and kidney stones and they swear that having kidney stones is worse. Good luck.

That sucks.
Careful with percocet - a few days on those will make your stomach hate you too, and you'll start puking.

I have had more stones than I can count and I can tell you the hard part is over ...When they hit the bladder all is good! You will feel a little pressure when they come out and thats it..Drowning yourself in water makes it much easier to pass from the bladder out..You do NOT want them to stay in the bladder for any length of time...

from a someone that has had my fair share of stones. Once they are in the bladder your pretty much ok. Not a big deal just to pee them out afterwards. The most pain is when the stone is stuck between the kidney and bladder. Ueruater (sp) tube area.

Good luck man, last one I had was removed via the old basket retrieval, then they had to put a stent in afterwards which had to be removed a week later. Don't wish that on anyone.

Yea the stent removal is always fun...Grab string, yank, roll around in pain while cursing the doctor.

Bummer deal lcap.

Been there done that several times. Mucho sucko.

I agree with everyone else, once they are out of the kidneys and all the way in to the bladder it is pretty much over. But the pain.... ohhh the pain!!! Evil or Very Mad

man, I've has the stones 2x. What the hell? Is this a evolutionary flaw? Because without modern pain killers, I don't know if I would have survived both episodes.

cameraboy, you'd have survived.

Mine is directly related to my other condition, but a lot of people get them due to their diet. They are more common than most people realize, and a lot of us here are getting to the age when they become prevalent. We are probably now paying for our sins of the past, if you get my drift.

I get them because I really don't like to drink water all that much and because I drink too much pop. Gotten them a few times from taking supplements like protein or calcium when training hard but not drinking enough water. Last one was from drinking too much AMP Energy Drink without drinking any water.

They suck. Hang in there. Worst part is when they are moving down the ureter. Never peed one out that hurt all that bad.

Man, what a difference one little letter makes.

do you think they can ever be lethal? I mean, as you get older, your heart and body can only take so much, right? I remember PRAYING for death though. woh, man. I am NOT looking forward to the next bout.

Awhile ago, I got that first twinge you feel in your lower back/side. It turned out to be very tiny and nothing at all, barely any pain that time, but when I felt that familiar twinge, I broke out into a cold sweat and started to panic, man.

Nothing, and I mean nothing: No injuries; broken bones, torn ligaments, torn Achilles, torn ACL, 2nd & 3rd degree burns on my hand, cut off finger, or 15 surgeries compared to the pain that little 1-2mm stone caused.

I couldn't lie down, couldn't sit down, I could only stand while they kept injecting morphine into the I.V. Hour after excruciating hour that tiny little stone beat the morphine.

I will never again miss my 4 glasses of water a day, never.
