Hello everyone, I am new to the board. I have been watching you wakeboarders for some time in amazment I just recently bought me a wakeboard and 2002 Obrien not sure what model are those decen't boards?, and have only tried it a couple of times and before I embarras myself the next time was wondering if anyone had some tips for starting off? I'm reasonably athletic and coordinated so with some practice I should be able somewhat ride the thing. Oh yeah it didn't come with fins what size fins should I get for a total newbie??

Getting up:

You want your board and shoulders perpendicular to the boat (Ie. Board is sideways). Let the boat idle forward, so the line is tight. When the line gets tight, go into a cannon ball position. Try to make your heel edge touch your butt. Keep your board in front of you. Try to keep the tip of your lead foot just out of the water. Arm position is important. Never have your arms between your knees. Put them either on top of your knees or outside your knees.

When you feel you are ready, tell the driver to hit it. I've found slowly accelerating works better for newbies....but some you might need to just give it. As it pulls, let the boat do the work, and don't try to stand up too quick. Once your board is on top of the water, put your weight onto your back foot and your board will turn parallel to the boat...Welcome to wakeboarding.

O'neil boards are pretty good! You shouldn't have any problems there. What size fins do you have on it now?

If you need anymore help, just ask.

um, maybe thats the way brooke comes up, but what I do, along with everyone else I know, you don't pull on the rope, you hold the handle and let the boat do all the work.

What you do is lay down in the water with the bottome of the board facing the boat like this

______ <-- boat
|
|<--- rope
|
___<--board

not sure if that makes sense or not but it does for me. Then the boat will take off and you keep your knees bent and ur arms straight and let the boat do all the work. So you will come up with the tip's of the boat pointed towards the wakes. After you come up you push down on you back foot and turn the board. Hope that made sense, not sure if it did

ok, srry, his explenation is better but his wasn't up when I wrote mine. as for fins it depends on the board, u don't have any clue or any way of finding out what kind of board it is. Go on wakeworld.com's board guide and look through the obrien boards and look for yours

Tie the rope to your leg and lay upside down with your head submerged in the water. Very Happy

The easiest way for me to get up when I first started wakeboarding was starting from the dock. Sit on the edge of the dock, with the board partially in the water in the position you would ride in. (You sounded regular). Tell the driver to just gun the boat, (after the rope is tight of couse) and you should come pretty easily. (If you have no clue about my instructions I understand, and I'll try to explain it better and in more detail if you want.)
Although a dock start was the easiest for me, it's not exactly convenient...having to go to the dock every time you take a fall sucks. I would REALLY try getting up out of the water. The other guy's advice sounded right, and they said it way better than I ever could. Good luck.

json forgot to mention its probably a good idea to take the slack out of the rope before you tell the driver to "just gun it".but hey...
