| How much does board size really matter? I mean, a 132 compared to a 138 isn't a very big difference yet the size of rider changes dramaticly. Is it that important??? |

It does make a huge difference in feel. As far as whether or not you can ride it, no. But if you were to ride both sizes, you would notice a very dramatic change in handling characteristics. _________________

| I don't yet have my own board so I am switching off between some friends 141 and 144 which is only 3 cm and the difference is huge!! The 144 is a quite a bit more stable while the 141 feels very loose after using the 144 for a couple runs. I was surprised at how much I struggled on it. I'm sure there are other characteristics of the board that play a factor but I know size was definitely one of them. |

My friend and I both have a HL Apex. Mine is a 142 and his is a 137. I felt much more comfortable on mine, and my spins and everything were super smooth, but I did get noticeably more pop with his simply because it set lower in the water. The way that it handled was completely different as well. Now I also have a 136 Vice, and a 140 Murray. The Vice is extra wide, so you don't notice much of a difference in size. In fact, it has more surface area than the 142 even. It wouldn't hurt to try boards at the low end and high end of your size range to figure out which way you'd rather go. _________________

Well, getting up on a larger board is sometimes easier because of the increased surface area. With the larger area to pivot you up onto the water, it's sometimes easier.
In reference to the initial question, there is a huge difference between 132 and 138. Now, the difference between a 137 and a 138 are pretty negligible, but 2-3 cm difference you will probably start to notice. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |
