I just stared wakeboarding and I have been able to get up out of the water every time but when I get up and then stand up and try to turn the board towards the ski it seems like I can't. I end up riding with the board a little sideways, is that normal?

Pull your handle to the opposite side you want so spin. If you're left foot forward pull the handle to the left and your board will move naturally.

Also look at your binding position,I am not super flexible so by ducking my bindings out just a little bit more I am able to rotate my hips and upper body enough that it pulls me straighter.

WarEagle07, let the boat do the work. it shouldnt be a fight. squat like a frog on your board, the board will go under water before it will rise and plane out.

WarEagle07, you are "sliding out." It it caused by holding the rope with your arms straight out (elbows locked) like a water skier. You need to figure out which way you ride "regular" (which foot are you more comfortable putting in front?) and when you figure out which one feels better then turn the board that way once you get up.

After you get going, flex your arms a little bit and pull the handle down toward the front hip. Keep it there no matter what you do-it will keep your shoulders, hips, and the board in the same line parallel to the boat. If you have trouble with this at first, another thing you can try is to hold on with ONLY your lead hand and extend your arm out toward the boat. This will also keep things in a straight line for you until you can work on pulling the handle to your lead hip.

Slideouts are caused by holding the rope out in front of you like you're water skiing, and holding it too close to your body's center line.

Also, ride at about 17MPH at the absolute minimum.

riding behind a jet ski could have something to do with it.

I know choppy water won't really be noticable behind a boat because it can clear out most of the chop
12mph is barely moving. I don't know how you are staying up

You must be a small guy. At 12mph, I would be under water. 230lbs needs to be moving at least 18mph.

You are probably 5-6 mph too slow for any size. Speed it up. If you need it slower to try new tricks, just signal at that time. After the trick, bump the speed back up. I typically board between 20 and 22 mph and have them slow down to 18 mph to try new tricks. Once I have the trick down, I do the trick at normal speed. It seems to work for me.

You can also use a GPS to calibrate your speedometer. 12mph is definately slow and if the board isn't on plain it will be a wrestling match.

To answer your orginal question, I see a lot of begineers somewhat holding the board at a slight angle even when riding straight. This usually goes away rather quickly. You just need to fight to get the board around so it is straight.

Simply put....you are trying to twist at your shoulders/back, twist at your hips, square your upper torso to the boat. Riding to slow will beat the crap out of you, speed up!!!
