The hose material shouldn't matter, but if your hoses are ok the problem may be somewhere else. It sounds like you've checked that the hoses are clear, but are the sealed? Try blocking one end and blowing into the other. Other problems may be power to the speedo, or other problems with it.

as long as the hose seals on both ends and can make the turns going to the speedo it should work. here's how to find out whats wrong. undo the hose at the speedo, use air pressure to verify the system is free of obstruction, u can even blow thru it by mouth if u have to. if it's not clear, find the blockage, if it's clear, proceed. now take the hose off the pick-up and plug one end of the hose with a golf tee. if u can borrow a "Mighty-Vac", use it to check that the line itself is holding air by applying a vacuum to it and watching the guage on the mighty-vac, the needle shouldn't move. if u can't use a mighty-vac u can do it with ur mouth by sucking the air out of the hose. u should only be able to suck a small amount until there's no air left in the line. if the mighty-vac never pulls a vacuum reading or u are able to keep sucking air by mouth, u have a leak in the line somewhere. if the lines are free of blockage and are air tight then ur problem is with the speedo itself. airguide speedo's work off of air pressure via a small diaphram that moves the needle. these diaphrams are rubber and deteriorate and then no longer hold air pressure and are not serviceable. u have to replace the speedo. to chech the system all together u can use a SMALL amount of air pressure applied to the pick-up and the needle will move indicating everything is working. DO NOT use alot of pressure or u will rupture the diaphrams. also if u find the line has a leak u can use a mixture of soap and water in a spray bottle and while maintaining air pressure in the line, look for the leak. sorry for the long post but this is what it takes to troubleshoot this type of system. of course u could just replace everything times two if money is no object.... _________________ Take A Rip! |
