So I get off the boat sat with a little buzz goin. Time to crank some pandora on the laptop, drop a deucy and get a shower. Right about the time I'm finishin the deucy I hear the music cut off. I go over there and good ole Vista has decided that it was time for updates and restarted my computer on it's own. Not a huge deal this time because last time I was taking an online timed quiz when it decided to do this. But still it was frustrating. So then I wait for it to finish restarting, pull pandora back up and there's no sound?!?! I go into control panel and hit master volume and it tells me that there is no audio output device installed.......WTFing F So this new update somehow convinced my computer that it didn't have speakers anymore. So my drunk self had to sing you've lost that lovin feelin in the shower instead of rockin out to some 311...... F vista /rant

You know you can shut off the automatic updates, right?

My favorite Vista "feature" is the bubble that pops up in the lower right corner every time I fire up this laptop, that says "Windows Can't check for updates, click here to find a solution to this problem and check for updates..." -> (click) "Windows can't find a solution to this problem. Click here to find solutions to problems on your PC" Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad

...My new macbook pro should be arriving any day! No more windows or PCs ever again! Mr. Green

Vista is the buggy platform for Windows 7, it's an experiment that's why it sucks BIGTIME! But don't lose hopw, Windows 7 i think is offering an upgrade for Vista.

You'll never be happier. I got a macbook pro last summer and it's the best computer I've ever had. Love it.

Same case here. All my life used windows so i was very used to problems with it.
Bought a macbook pro in december. Though it cost me a little bit more than any other laptop, it's imo one of the best investments I've ever done. Never had a problem literally, the OS is 1000x more practical than windows, today almost everything is compatible with it, and in general it's a way better software than stupid microsoft. It's worth every penny

BTW best of all: no virus infections to worry about, or at least less worries than with windows

I ran into my first major headache with Vista. So far I've liked it, other than start-up time being slow. The computer I built in 2001 boots Windows XP faster than my 1 year old Quad Core with 4gb of ram with Vista.

Installing SQL Server has been beyond a bitch to get installed. For a microsoft product they sure haven't figured out how to get them to work together. I finally got it though and everything is good, but it took me about 6 hours.

I have been running vista for 2+ years now. Love it. No viruses, very little issues. I think its probably the best operating system I have ever tried. As for all you mac lovers hate to break it to you, but they are running intel chips now. They are a pc. I had a macbook back in 03', will never again own a mac. Overpriced, underpowered, and crashed every other time I tried to use it. Shelved it and then sold it 4 years ago. Almost immediately the guy I sold it to wanted his money back since the screen went out and it wasn't worth replacing it. Maybe since they have begun using the intel chips they perform better but they lost my business for life.

Yeah I agree on the slow start up, really wouldn't be that big of a deal except for it decides to restart itself right when I'm doin somethin. So far though besides the automatic updates this computer has been trouble free. First Toshiba I've ever had and I like it.

The GF's mom got a mac through her company because she is a graphic designer and that thing is just so user friendly. It made setting up her Iphone and messing with her Ipod so easy. The only thing that sucks is Itunes seems like it needs and update every month, but that is Itunes and not the macbook itself

Vista did the same thing to me about a year ago. No sound or anything and it said the same thing yours is. I don't remember how I fixed it but it was pretty simple.

I just had to reinstall the driver, it's fixed now, it was just the inconvenience at the time. I had to miss out on some jams while I was drinkin beer in the shower

lol, no offense but macs are for people who don't know how to use computers. Try making programs on a Mac, playing the latest games (or most any game for that matter), getting any sort of power for major applications or multitasking, overclocking, running dedicated servers, etc. And people say they're easier to use for graphic design? Pff stuff, when I went to school for graphic design I couldn't believe the hype, there was no difference. The only difference are the keys you have to press, and honestly the PC ones made more sense anyway, the key letter actually corresponded to a function. Not to mention stability in saving the file AND compressed disc space in the file was far superior in the PC. A 4 gb picture cs3 save??? gimme a break. What else are Macs? pricey and for kids who have an image problem that want to fit in. There's a reason you don't see large corporations using Macs, unless it's somehow involving either graphics, or solely the internet (MAYBE music). And even then it's for a BS reason that macs have better interface for art stuff, yeah right

Stick with Vista and work with it. You will end up learning a bit about computers, and you can truly personalize it as far as your mind wants. Don't get stuck up in the hype...Macs are for people who can't figure out how to really run a computer

Seriously? Both have their pros and cons, and that's a completely ridiculous statement. Either that or a few of my friends who are big programmers "cant figure out how to use a computer."

I'm not sure if you've ever spent any time with OSX, but it's not really easier, it's just different in some aspects. I dual boot XP and OSX on a few machines, but 99% of the time I'm in OSX. I assure you that it has nothing to do with me "knowing how to use a computer" or "an image problem." I don't even take my MBP to school anymore, usually I just grab my Lenovo S10. Truth is I could care less what people think of my computer, or what OS I'm running, I just have a preference to OSX...

Macs are fine for surfing the internet, checking e-mail and doing the basic Office type applications. As was mentioned earlier, very few industries use Macs.

Case in point, within our engineering department we probably have 20-30 different software apps. Not one of these apps offers a version to run on a Mac.

I'm not advocating either way but... I'm going to have to agree with Dragon, that is a completely ridiculous statement. Personally, I currently use Windows 7 and I'm toying around with a few versions of linux. We use Windows based PCs at work but several developers I work with run Macs at home and they are definitely computer savvy people

What is it about the mac that they are known to excel in graphics? Why are the prefered by graphic design houses vs. pc?

nmballa, OS stability is the main item I can point to. I have yet to crash the Mac - not that my office PC crashes (it's extremely rare, actually), but OS/X is flat out less prone to lockup.

imshirazy, and I run a Mac at home as well. I'm pretty certain I know how to use a comfuzahhhh.

Yeah I imagine if my GF had an hours worth of design layed out and Vista decided to do an auto update and shut down she might be kind of pissed. Her graphic design classes at school are all on Macs so there is some kind of reasoning somewhere that designers prefer them. Thats the only dept anywhere on our campus that uses macs

Got it. Some of this files you work with in Graphics can become massive. Gigs worth being shifted about. Although, the mac I had back in the day was extremely prone to crashing but I was downloading a lot of bit torrents and music. Could have been part of it.
