i was wondering how most of the people out there plan their runs. I typically just go out there, spend about a minute getting comfortable, then go for a few jumps - whatever I can think of at the moment. By the time I'm done, I realize that I wanted try something else. So it's typically more of a improv thing.

On the other hand, a while ago my buddy got a new boat and had it weighted down nice so it threw a huge wake. We were all psyched, planning for a great day of big air, new tricks, all types of stuff. So I tried to visualize myself going out there, had a little mental list of all the tricks I'd try... however, the moment I get out on the water I completely fell apart - not able to do even a surface 180 which is typically no big deal at all.

Wondering what you think is better - a detailed and visualized plan or just go out there and do whatever comes to mind?

Hey tdes - I usually start each run trying to work on one or two tricks. If I land that particular trick three times solidly, then I screw around and improv until I crash. I think it helps - you have some structure and you push yourself a bit, but you still get to just play once you've done what you set out to do.

I only have a set run when the camera is rolling. Otherwise, I'm working on whatever I need work on.

Whenever I plan out my run, I suck. When I got out there and start screwing around, then I start to feel the flow and stuff just comes to me and I throw down.

yeah! that's the thing though. Your ki must be flowing, and you just gotta be feeling all of the positive energy and good vibes. That's why the butterslide was invented. It just feels so good to do, and surfing the wake, and the fashion air...

It really depends on the day for me, some days I have time to take 3 sets so the first set is just to go out bust it up, do my normal bag of tricks in no particular order. Second run is for a NEW trick or dialing in one I still can't land that good, I'll through it till I get tired or land it a few times. The third set is for either getting back in the grove or adding the new trick some place in my regular pass.

I have found that you need to tell yourself, I'm going to try this trick no matter what this run, before you even get the board on. The whole time you are getting ready think about the trick and get ready to pull it. IF you don't think about it before you get in the water chances are slim you will think about it while on the water.

Thankfully to these posts I busted out with a good set (for me, that is) undersimilar circumstances this week. Only had one set though, but I took the first run to just get comfortable. Once in the groove I started going for things I'd been wanting to work on (TS jumps) and those went off without a hitch for the first time, even pulled a TS180 out my ass.

I guess it's all a matter of confidence. If I'm the least bit psyched out when I'm riding, I'll fall doing anything.

If you put maximum effort into the trick, the trick becomes effortless.

Anything less than full effort can get you hurt

I like to get my grab on and sliding on before trying to do big moves. Ya gotta get the feel of the wake and water that day and just get in the groove. I always ride better after doing that stuff. Sometimes that's all I do!

Usually, Im focused on landing something before I get in, once I do that then I just mess around and see what else I can do.
