Hey all, just a quick note to introduce myself. I'm getting back into wake boarding after a ten year hiatus, and this site is AWESOME! Back in the day, I didn't have a resource like this, I had to just keep trying things until I it finally made sense. I am realizing now that my biggest mistake was trying to ollie at the top of the wake to get big air. I could easily go W2W, but I must have looked like a goon. I can't wait to go back out and apply some of what I've learned here.
When I quit boarding (after I sold my boat), I was riding an O'Brien Phatty. I still don't have a boat, but my buddy just bought an 09 Wakesetter VLX. I picked up an Air Profile board at a yard sale for $20, hoping to use it until I can afford a real board. What is comparable to the Phatty's characteristics in today's boards? Is Hyperlite the way to go? I'm about 190-200 lbs., and my style is not that aggressive (yet).
Again, thanks for all the great info and the willingness to help us noobs. |

Welcome to the site, and welcome back to wakeboarding As for boards maybe one of the old school crew can answer your question about the Phatty. Mostly just stick to the name brand boards hyperlite, liquid force, or CWB, look for something that is an intermediate level, a beginner board would get boring fast. _________________

I sure wish I knew some someone with a Wakesetter... Then I could maliflip my malitoggles, and add maliballast to my malibu. But anyway, I wouldn't shy away from a beginner board thinking it will get boring, but it is advisable to go more toward the intermediate range, so that you know you have a board that will ride well for your ability level for quite some time. It never hurts to demo boards and bindings. But, try riding as many of your friends boards as you can, and remember what shapes and features they have along with what you liked and disliked. _________________
