I just got down my W2W and now im wanting to try new things. Im thinking that what i should try now is surface 180s and 360s. Along with ollies. Does anyone have any tips on how to do these?
On surface 180's keep the rope fairly low, roll onto your heels medium hard, and just bring the board around. If you lean to hard on your heels you will slip out, to light and you will catch an edge and learn the faceplant _________________

In addition to JeffreyCH's advice, use the handle to initiate rotation on 180/360 tricks. So, if you are riding heelside, pull the rope handle to your back hip when you roll onto your heels. That is the easiest way to begin the rotation to "bring the board around." _________________

I honestly think it has to do with internet penetration...
This applies to doing spins in the air, but im not sure about surface tricks, but keep your eyes level on the shore line. it helps you stay on axis in the air, and it will probly help with sliding out or catching that edge.
A good way to learn edging for this kind of thing is to slow the boat down a little learn to rock back on your heels and ride sideways, kind of like when you're just getting pulled up from a deep water start.
This will at least get you comfortable leaning back on your heels and breaking free of the fins. Once you're comfortable sliding sideways you can put weight on your front and back feet to go left and right and get comfortable with the edge while sideways. Once you're comfortable with that, you'll have no problem being able to move to 180's and 360's.
Bigget thing though is like JeffreyCH said about keeping the rope low.
As for the ollies, start small and work your way up. It's better to get the motion down right than to try and be super ollie champion right away. Just push your back foot down and you'll feel the board pop you up a little bit. Once you get comfortable just slam your back foot down harder/faster and you'll be getting height in no time, just make sure to keep your nose up. There are a lot of how to's online for this so do a little research. (also, watch videos of other people doing it to get the motion down)
Thanks pet575, I forgot that part about the handle. For some weird reason I found that I learned surface 180's easier on the crest of my HS wake, actually lip sliding it around, not sure why, maybe less edge to potentially catch???
Here's one of my very first ones ever, from last year.

one of my favorite tricks, is to cut away from the wake hard HS, and do a back side surface 180 with handlepass just as i start to coast.
simple but feels and looks good.
Agree...I am becoming a master of this, and it does look good! Ya know, did you try hs bs 180 to blind yet? THis is the way you train for that trick with the surface slide we are doing. I havent yet tried it, but I want to next time out even just 1 wake.
And PS about slides....you ALWAYS want to have some bend in the knees when training for slides. Standing up tall on them will be painful _________________ One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them. One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

Not really much progression with ollies. Anymore tips?
An ollie drill they teach at TWC is to "pump" little ollies one after another in the middle of the wake. In otherwords, just do little ollie hops repeatedly directly behind the boat. Don't try to go big, just concentrate on your technique while stringing together multiple ollies in a row. This will help train your muscle memory.
I think the key to surface tricks is keeping it all very low. Don't just bend your knees as they'll go straight, you need to roll your knees outwards so they sort of go towards either end of the your board.
Keep you handle low, with a little flex in your elbows, and literally let it all come from the hips.
You can learn 360's in several ways, the one I like is where you ride along, again keeping it all low, knees flexed and just gentle pull yourself towards the boat a couple of times to get a little slack in the line. Then pass the handle behind to your back hand, so you are riding blind, then literally the board will automatically swing round. But the key is to keep the handle close to your body.
Best way to learn 180's/360's is on a a wakeskate. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore!
