So if you've been following the CA budget, you know that they have a deal and that deal DID NOT include an extraction fee for oil.
Well... in an INCREDIBLE FUGGING COINCIDENCE, Occidental Petro announced today (2 days after deal is struck) that they found a "brand new" oil patch in Kern County with 150-250 MILLION barrels in it.
Mother f.,king Schwartzenneger Repugnicans POFS bastard mother f-ers.
Seriously! They just RAPED our kids and the elderly/indignant to "balance" this f-ing budget, but protected this special interest in the process, and now this!!!

Sounds about right. They would do the budget a huge favor by regulating, but allowing tapping of resources and charging those kinds of fees.

Chavez- What is an oil extraction fee? Are they charging it now on the existing wells in Kern county? (Kern county has the most wells of any county in the USA btw...) I assume the oil companies are paying royalties on the production to the state and/or to private persons, depending on who owns the minerals. Also, I imagine that there are production taxes/ad valorem paid to the state/counties of CA on production as they have in TX?
You seem to be an advocate this an extraction tax, would this be in addition to the other taxes I mention, or are the aformentioned taxes not currently being paid?

RampageWake, it is a fee/tax on any oil taken out of the state's soil.
Every single state in the USA has such a fee - except CA. We are the 3rd largest producer, behind TX and AK. FWIW, AK's fee is nearly 25%!!! Texas is much lower at around 5%
The fee proposed in CA (around 9%) could generate 2+ billion per year for CA.
It's not a savior, but I'll be damned if it wouldn't have helped.
