DVDs have regions written on them, so even though the actual movie data is the same, because they were made in the US, they won't play on a UK DVD player. Most computer players, though, will either work regardless of region, or let you select your region.

Hey Tommy

I'm in the UK too and getting DVDs is a pain - usually have to get them in from the US.

I can play all my wakeboard DVDs on my computer no problem at all. The ones I've got are all Region 0 - meaning there's no need for them to have a region code as they're not screened at the cinema and the film companies wouldn't miss out on the revenue. For example, a US DVD came out and we hadn't had the film screened over here in the UK the film companies wouldn't get all our hard earned in cinema takings.

The one thing you do need to check is that your DVD-ROM drive can read NTSC format DVDs.

Hope this helps.

Region codes are a way that DVD authors can try and stop DVD's from being released in other countries before it's time. It's pretty lame and, like anything else there is always a way around it. Most Wakeboard producers now turn all all region codes on when they are authoring a DVD. So try it out and see how it works.

There is a program i used once called DVD Genie, and you can change the region of the dvd player for your computer so you can play any dvds.

Maybe I missing something, but why not just order a dvd player from the US to watch videos from the US?

Because a US dvd player runs in NTSC, but a UK player in PAL, so you'd have to buy a new TV too. It would be easier to just download a program and play it on your computer.

If you have a DVD player and a TV capable of playing NTSC, then you should go to http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/ then there should be a DVD "region hack" section look up your player on the list follow instructions for the "region hack" then your DVD player is now multiregion !
