What are you video guys using to convert your HD camcorder files? The program that came with it converts it to a standard def quality avi. So far I've read that Nero and Premier Elements do the trick.

I've used the standard Sony software. I think I posted something similar to this question a while back on decreasing the size of the files. Even after converting the files from HD to SD, my files were still very large.

Thanks Chris. My camera is a Canon, but creates the same file type. Nero Showtime actually plays the files, where the stock player lags really bad. Nero Vision converts the files to mpeg-4 files, but nothing seems to be able to play them. Still lost.

I finally found a decent, easy to use and cheap video editor that can handle HD compression, thought I would pass it along.
