If you were my size what size board would you ride?

Just wanted to get an opinion because I think I'm riding too small (136)

i'm 5'9" just under 150 and ride 137's

a 136 shouldn't be that bad for you but i think with your weight 138-142 is a decent range.

if you're still riding that 03 in your profile i'd give some of the 09 LF boards a look when they go on sale this fall. it wouldn't hurt to upgrade with all the new features and advancements made over the last 6 years

Blindside_137, funny you say that. I was thinking to myself you know it's been a long time since i tried a new board. So I got a 08 LF trip. Unfortunately I got a 134 and I can honestly tell it's way too short. I feel like the board rides a lot like the belmont though..

You bring up an interesting point, however. Perhaps I'm in the dark, but have boards really changed that much over the past 6 years?

Wakeboarder3780, i really think so, and i think some of the biggest improvements are in molded fins, concave hulls, and rounded edges.

i started out 6 years ago on a blindside session board, hence the username, and it's heavy as a mofo and edges are very sharp. my ps3 and one board are very rounded on the edges which makes them very forgiving if i don't quite rotate enough on a spin, or don't have my balance quite right on a surface spin, i'm not going to faceplant.. Laughing

and then with boards like the watson that have a very pronounced v-shaped bottom really break up and disperse water nicely on landings to make them softer than flat bottom boards (something i loathe about my ronix)

and then the molded fins are great because the give you plenty of control when you're on an edge but if i want to break my ps3 loose for butterslides and such its a breeze.

whenever you're bored, check out some of the manufacturers websites. I know LF and Hyperlite have tons of videos describing their boots/boards. I have never really watched hyperlites but i feel like LF's used to be more in depth a few years ago, but still pretty informative..

At 180 lbs I would think nothing smaller than a 138 and would probably lean towards something in the 140+ range. A 134 Trip is way too small. My g/f is 115 lbs and rides a 135 (LF Diva). This doesn't mean you can't ride that board, but it is probably holding you back.

Blindside_137 makes some great points about the current shape of boards. I personally prefer Liquid Force boards (not saying there's anything wrong with the other manufacturers) but even going from an '06 PS3 141 to an '08 Lyman 143 I noticed a big difference in how the new board lands on W2W's. Its a lot softer landing but still fast and "snappy".

Dang, if only I would have asked first instead of buying that 134 LF trip first.. Guess that's why it's up in the classifieds now. Lessons learned. If I get it sold I'll post up a new topic on suggestions for the softer landing boards. That's one thing I found with the trip i was riding is that it seemed a little shell shock on landings, but that may be because it was a smaller board and couldn't handle the pressure properly, who knows. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Holy crap I rode a 141 today of the same board i ride in a 136. The difference was astounding. I definitely belong riding in the 140 area. The difference you could get cutting for carves was night and day. You can actually really dig in when the board is big enough. Smaller boards just skirt out.
