I'm in the market for a new Digital Camera. Looking at spending about 150 to 200 dollars. I know absolutely nothing about cameras so any help would be appreciated.

Here's what I'm looking for:
Unlimited Video taking
High megapixels so I dont take poor pictures and video.
Good battery life

Well this is about the only thing I know, so what other things should I be looking out for, and what cameras would you recommend?

You're talking about a pocket point & shoot camera correct?
Your price range is going to severely limit your choices

But Canon Powershots are pretty good.

Dragonlady8, you obviously haven't been in the P&S camera market recently.

Oasis137, There are a ton of good cameras that will do what you are looking for under $200. The one you listed looks like a good option. I have two batteries for mine. It's nice because I always have a backup.

Canon Powershot SD1200IS........

$199

Best of the inexpensive (sub-200) bunch. We have and love the previous version (SD1100IS).

Canon's big sell is the optical IS. Most inexpensive cameras uses electronic IS which IMO makes it worse not better.

Anyhow, I am sure you can find it locally for that $199 price or better.

What if you're looking for a waterproof camera that can shoot sequences (several frames per second)? Any recommendations?

You'll need an SLR with a waterproof housing, they (the housing) are typically as expensive as the camera.

Yeah. Check Google -> 'waterproof digital camera'. If you can't find what you're looking for then start your own thread instead of hijacking someone else's.

Oh yeah sure, start my own thread titled "Digital Cameras"? Dick.

oasis137 started this topic with "Well this is about the only thing I know, so what other things should I be looking out for,...?".
Maybe the camera being waterproof and the ability to shoot sequences are things he might appreciate in a camera. (What wakeboarder wouldn't?)

"Yeah. Check Google -> 'waterproof digital camera'."
That's what I did. Hard to find anything shooting multiple frames per second though.

jryoung, exactly, I could find a housing for my current camera but it indeed is as expensive as the camera itself. Rather spend the money on another camera then.

On this same topic, I lost my digital camera over the weekend. It was several years old, and was not top-of-the-line by any means, but it took decent pictures. I'm not a photography buff or anything, just want to be able to take some decent pics here and there.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an iPhone. Does anyone see any reason why the iPhone camera couldn't do everything my old camera did?

pet575, my blurry iPhone pictures see a reason why. Laughing

I have yet to see a cell-phone-cam do anywhere near the job a real digi does.

As a matter of fact have and I know for a fact he's not going to get a worthy reliable DSLR for that 100-200 . But there MANY P&S in his price range.

This is the chippiest I've seen a thread get in the Tech section.

I bought my Nokia N82 Cell Phone specifically to be my Digital Camera and Personal GPS. It has a Carl Zeiss Lens, Xenon Flash (I think it's 1 of 2 phones with a real xenon flash), and a 5MP autofocus sensor.

It takes great pictures in high and low light conditions. It sometimes blows out the colors if pictures are taken from a bad angle, but every point and shoot camera is going to do that.

On top of being very happy with the camera in the phone it also acts as my GPS (uses Garmin Mobile XT and is identical in look and functionality to a Garmin Nuvi).

I also have an 8gig MicroSD card in it and use it as my MP3 player. The phone has no touch screen and no special texting features (I hate texting), but it does everything that I want it to, and it does it really well.

These are all taken with my N82 (phone).
