Nice man, very nice, looks super fun. How much do one of those cost to build or buy? I always see spots during my daily travels, and always think "man I wish I had a winch to ride that spot" lol. _________________

Most expensive parts are:
6.5 hp 200cc engine: 150-200 $
Clutch, TAV2: 170-200 $
1000' line: 300 $ (quality coated 1/8" spectra)
Apart from this you have some material cost and if you can't weld and such, you need to get the frame and spool made at a workshop...
So if you're in a DIY-mood it's not that expensive. But if you're looking to buy it the prices get pretty high(2-3000$)
Took it out yesterday on the glassy river
and the winch:

do not buy the coated rope. I have it and it sucks huge balls.
here is my favorite winch in the whole entire world!

1075 bucks and 15 dollar shipping, thats how much winches SHOULD cost. |

Thats an awesome bargain ejazzle! Cheapest I've seen so far.
But I don't agree with you about not getting coated rope. If you do winching where the line keeps getting dragged along rocks and such or at the beach, having a coated line is a big saver. Better to have a long lasting line than having to worry about it getting frayed, IMO.
What kind of rope do you use and how is it working out for you? I'm a bit worried about having elastic nylon-rope when doing a 6-800' pull |

Anyone looking to go the DIY method can find all the info you need on winchskating.com.
Also, from personal experience growing up around go karts and mini bikes I learned that knock-off motors = shít. _________________ www.wakeupfilms.com |

steven m - knock-offs are probably shite for go karting purposes, where you push the engine on high revs for long periods...but winching is very gentle to the engine, only short runs on high rev, so if you take normal care of the engine - it's my opinion that they'll last a long time

ronix_brendo, arctic_pitbull, as I said, it's merely from personal experience that I'm saying knock-offs are shít. I've seen to many friends get a knock off because it was cheaper only to have it constantly break on 'em before they went and bought a Briggs, Honda, etc..
If a knock off stays working for you, congrats you just saved yourself some cash in theses hard times. _________________ www.wakeupfilms.com |
