I have 3 boys ages 6, 9, 10, they weigh 30lbs to 60. and I need some advice about getting them started. They all waterski and are very comfortable in the water and all think wakeboarding is very cool.

Question:
What board would be a good start? All 3 will share it.

We started my son on the Hydroslide 180. We just bought him and his younger brother the Liquid Force Nemesis board with youth Liquid Force Domain bindings. The board is a 124. My boys are 9 and almost 7, so around the same age. I'd say get something that is not too beginner in style and design, stay around 122-124 in length, and get bindings that are more boot like and supportive. That Hydroslide definitely didn't help my boys in that aspect.

I would check out the LF Nemesis line or the CWB line. The CWB Surge and the hinge bindings have been really popular with the kids. A real problem for some kids is getting in and out of the bindings. The hinge bindings help the kids get in and out without problems.

I'd recommend the same as what our boys are using. You could consider stepping down in size to a 118 since your boy is so small.

His snowboard is a 110. Is there any relation between the wakeboard size and snowboard size? For example, does it take into consideration his weight and height or is that just the smallest wakeboard size there is?

You should take into account his size and weight, but also keep in mind that will change rather quickly. LF does have the Nemesis in a 111. I'm not sure if anyone else goes any smaller. I'm not sure on snowboard versus wakeboard...maybe someone else can answer that.

I was told (by Scott McCullough, daughter Taylor started wakeboarding at age 4) that a bigger board for younger kids would be better (more stable). Last week we got our 4 1/2 year old daughter a used LF Star 124 w/ Prima kids boots (Taylor's old Gear). Looks pretty big and haven't put her on water yet, but we'll start of by pulling her around along the shore. Also, when we're at home, we'll put her in the neighbor's pool just to float with it hooked to her feet (also, have her work on flipping the board around while floating on her stomach to her back). I know it will take patience, but she's pretty excited for summer to get here.

Those are all great ideas to get the kid used to handling the board in the water.

thanks

x2! We've done some similar things with our boys.

Also, what I like about going with a little bigger board, is that my daughter and my neighbor's daughter will be able to use this board for the next 3 or 4 years. Though, I'm sure they'll start wanting a newer one before growing out of it.

We just bought a 1999 Mastercraft Xstar last weekend and we are really excited to get it in the water. We are skiiers and wanted to try wakeboarding for a change. We both really enjoyed it. After a few face plants and various othe not so graceful wipeouts we eventually got the hang of it. Last summer my daughter learned to ski but had a little trouble getting up on the wake board. We took out the little fishing boat with a 18 hp motor ran a steel pipe across the middle, used bolts to attach it to where the ores would fit in, ran a rope from the end of the pipe to the front of the boat for support and mad a makeshift boom. It worked amazing. She was low enough to the water to feel comfortable and was up and running first time. After a few times around the lake we rigged up a rope, ran it through the rope attached to end of the bar and slowly let it out so she was eventually behind the boat. Every kid on our cottage road had a try or two and did great. We eventually went behind the 18 ft i/o. They had a few false starts but understood the feel and managed to figure it out. We definately saw the need for a full out wakeboard boat and are looking forward to a summer of incredible fun and huge fuel consumption.
