So here are two of my sad attempts at this trick. These were taking a few weeks ago before I hurt my knee, so I want some advice for when I get back out there.
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong and give me some tips to help me land this? I can do backflips on the tramp all day long, but I think I'm doing something wrong with the trip the wake approach.

i noticed you seem to be standing real tall as you hit the wake. also try holding the handle at your stomach to edge harder into the wake _________________

Hmmmmm after watching your video i could only think of a few things that would help you out.
1) Wait a little longer to get a good pop off the wake, and look directly back like you were on the trap. It looks like you have your head all twisted and it is making your body twist all funky.
2) maybe take a little harder cut that will help you get over the second wake giving you a little more time to rotate too.
3) try and hold the rope in one spot. It looks like you moved it around so it reverted you or took you to blind, ( cant really tell which) The rope is kinda like your axis and your body should flip around that point. So when you take off really focus on keeping the rope in one spot.
Hope this helps. Looks like you are really close. Good Luck Man! _________________ I represent NOR*CAL! |

Looks like you're bending your knees too much as you hit the wake. Stand tall in order to get more pop. |

| splash, tantrum is a trip flip...meaning that the wake will start your flip...right now your cutting into the wake fine..you just need to pretty much let off and stop cutting at the wake and wait for that pop... |

i have been trying tantrums, and i know that i have to commit heavy or im gonna hurt myself, which sounds really good when i am sitting in front of a computer and all but when i get out on the water i always wuss out, it sucks cause first off it blows to keep falling hard, and second i feel like a huge sell out.
riddick you said it is a trip flip and that you just have to let the wake flip you, i have been trying to line it up and then trying to flip it over my self, i only get about half way around at most .. remember im not committing to the max, but i am not feeling any of this trip flip stuff, what should it feel like when you get "tripped" or whatever. |

bvanderwoerd, its not necessarily that you are gonna feel the wake kick your board out from under you. Its a term explaining how the wake will help you initiate the rotation. when you cut in you will edge in then when you get to the bottom of the wake you will let off your edge and start to square your shoulders up to the wake... now once you are here you gotta commit the wake will toss you up and you gotta look back and initiate the tantrum... The key is honestly commitment you must commit to the MAX! _________________ I represent NOR*CAL! |

| bvanderwoerd, wait..just wait...square up with the wake, wait, and you'll feel it...you'll get popped up, the board will come out from under you starting the flip, and the line will pretty much be slacky haha.. |

here do this.... cut out as hard as you can... cut back to the wake as hard as you can, catch your toe edge on the wake fly high over the wake and let go of the handle so you stop rotating, face plant. laugh about it. then actually try to commit. get that wussy feeling out of the way....
when you commit, even if you fall doing it... it doesnt hurt nearly as bad as if you half-as commit.just commit man. what can go wrong. doesnt even hurt that bad when you fall, just make sure you throw it. you wont know what to do when you land it.... just panic and let go. ha _________________ Land of 10,000 Lakes |

have you practiced it on a trampoline?? that helps alot.
FRom what people have told me, you dont have to "throw" it as much as on a tramp. the wake sort of catches your heelside edge, and trips you, which flips you (as people have said) _________________ shutup and ride |

Hm Im having some trouble on my tannys. I dont know if its the same problem but I dont want to start a new thread.
I square up, get a pretty good trip and good pop, rotate well (pretty straight) but I always land crouched..almost on my butt. I land with my board on a nice HS edge (because I twist/open up slightly at the end like im going slightly to revert) so it seems like I should be able to ride away, but Im just so crouched/weight so far back that I pop the handle. Im basically in the position you have when your just getting up. Like the part where you are just starting to crouch and stand up from being in a seated position. How do I fix this? |

| LFADAM, when your in the air do you lay out or do you kick your knees to your chest? when i first learned tantrums i was super tucked and didn't have much vertical pop and i would land with so much momentum of the trick i would do just as you described. take the trick up and lay it out, spot your landing, and ride it away. |

Same thought here, you approach the wake very, very slowly. _________________

when practicing on the tramp, should you jump from say, the left side and land on the right side, simulating crossing the wake? or should you jump straight up and land straight down? _________________ Lake Shelbyville, IL |

big_steve, you are just under rotating the flip because you don't bring enough numbers (meaning speed, line tension, and legs) into the wake. You're doing the move great, but start that edge earlier and more aggressive (get those shoulders back) so you have enough time and momentum to shift your weight over your toes without losing all your energy. Also, bend those knees! You should be using a fair amount of leg push to pop that tantrum up nice and high.
That's the only reason you're opening up like that. When your body feels it's about to crash, going to fakie is a defense mechanism. You're close, just crank it up a bit.
splash, you need to square up to the wake much more. Pause your video when you are on the wake. Notice how your body is still very opened up to the boat (you can see the entire front side of your body from the boat) like a wake jump? Your back should be parallel to the wake and your chest should face away from the wake. You'll get a much better flipping motion that way.
Finally, check out this video starring yours truly! (The tantrums in there aren't a great example of these, kind of bugs me, but they should show you the idea) Try those drills out too!
