So I get up early Sunday morning to go shooting with a buddy - we have to drive to his old mans house an hour or so away.
Early like 5:00 and not my normal 7:30 - 8:00...
I walk across the street to my garage after just opening the door with the clicker from the house.
As I'm walking into my garage I catch a glimpse of a kid jumping out from behind my garage through the bushes and on to the street all ninja like.
He has his hood pulled over his head and has leaves all over his back and pants and stuff.- that's odd I think where is he coming from.
So I stand there and watch as this kid who looked completely lost not knowing which direction to walk and trying to avoid eye contact with me is spinning around in the street. Jigs up homie this is a one way street and the only way out is through me so I stand there knowing dam well what just happened. After he does a 180 and comes back my way I ask him what he is doing and he gives me -walking home. I ask where that is - he points down the street. Why did you almost go the other way - nothing - I ask where is he coming from and he stumbles - my friends house after thinking a bit to long - Oh really what's his name - Chris - Chris who, whats his last name. I don't know. Ok what house does he live in - nothing - he knows the jig is up now and tries walking again. I tell him to take a seat. he keeps walking. I step in front of him and tell him to take a seat while pointing. I think this is when he realized I was packn' cuz he looked right at my gun on my hip and then down the street like he was going to make a run for it. So I slowly said you run your done. he sits down. So I call the cops and they are there in minutes. this kid knows whats going on now and wants to leave something bad and gets back up all jittery like he is going to run again. I told him to take a seat this time I pull out the gun a cycle a bullet into the chamber and held the gun down to my side pointing at the ground. unwillingly he sits back down.
Cop shows up asking me what is going on - he sees I have a gun strapped to my hip and acknowledges it with a look and a nod. I told him what I saw and what I thought was going on so we go behind my garage and can see clear as day a nice little nest he had built with some of my fire wood and leaves. We talk a bit - told him where I was going etc.. Cop takes off with kid - later that day he stops by the house - I happen to be in my garage taking the spiked tires of the dirt bikes. Come to find out the dad kicked him out of the house about a week ago and has been wondering where he has been spending his nights. Cop wants to know if I want to press trespassing charges - I told him no - nothing is missing and nothing is damaged.
Cop and I had a good laugh and he assured me I scared the crap out of the kid and he wont be sleeping in my wood shed anymore....
Could have been worse my garage is easy to get into and I have heat and a beer fridge in there..heck I could live out there if the wife ever kicked my out of the house...LOL
I thinks it might be time to get a garage dog... or a night vision security camera or a bunch of motion sensor lights mounted all over the place. _________________ PEACE

Something similar happened to a buddy of mine on the lake, except the guy was drunk and sleeping on the floor of his garage. He had security cameras and has video of the drunk guy kicking in his garage door then going in for a nap. Scared the shiz out of my buddy when he went in the garage in the morning.
You have a good set of Police there, around here if a cop sees anyone with a gun, even on the hip, they would get out of the car already drawn and expect you to hit the ground FAST! I work for the PD here and carry, and in that situation I would have laid my gun on the ground and put my hands up as soon as I saw the police car. Kids are a little too trigger happy around these parts. _________________ Brent B

J_DOGG, Awesome. Good for you for remaining calm. You do have good cops there. I was on the ground with my hands behind my head a couple of weeks ago. Glad the kid was just shackin up rather than doing damage. I was fully expecting you to tell us about your busted door/window and crap everywhere.
Motion lights: Dual Bright. Just say those two words to the Lowes'/HD guy. I've got them all over my house. |

Yup for the most part NH cops still respect home owners rights...
Plus being close to 40 years old might have helped me a bit.
Poor kid just picked the wrong day - I hadn't been shooting in months...
might have gone down completely different if I saw damage - thank God for the both of us that was not the case.
I think I yelled at the kids I caught on my trampoline worse.
Crazy to think some fool could be walking the streets of cow-Hampshire looking for a place to crash and found a wood shed appealing. _________________ PEACE

By getting out your weapon were you willing to shoot this kid if he ran? That would be pretty harsh punishment for sleeping in someones wood shed. _________________ Brent B

Broccoli B, no just intimidation....
I would have been willing to let one ring into the air to get his attention if need be though... If he kept running I would have then hopped on my street legal WR450 and chased him down like a rabbit.
Fn around on or with someone else's property is serious stuff up here in NH..

| There is no way in hell I would've stayed if I was that kid, without the cops being there of course. |

J_DOGG, . While I do respect my elders, if I was a 16-18 yr old child you'd have zero chance in catching me. |

Same here. I would have emptied my pockets (slowly) as well. Wonder why he didn't just say that. _________________ Work SUX! |

Hollywood, and I would have given you a water to drink on the way home...
Rocko, That is the problem with you young guns - you think cuz I'm 38 I can't run - I have played soccer my entire life I can run with the best of them. but alas young lad old guys are smarter than that even still and don't need to run - I live on a one way street I could have jumped on my dirt bike or in my truck and met you at the end of the road after you jumped every fence and swamp along the way... You would have been real easy to spot then - the kid with swamp mud all over his baggy pants and sucking wind like no tomorrow.
At 38 I'd take on the even the scrappiest of 20 year olds and hold my own if not ground and pound him!! _________________ PEACE
