Anyone else counting down the days until college graduation? I'm getting to the point where I'm going to start counting down the hours. Just wondering if others are as anxious as I am. _________________ Go Engineers!

I'm beyond that, I had to adjust my life to how many MORE years I have to work before I can retire _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

| I remember walking out of my last college class. It was a bittersweet feeling. There's advantages to entering the working world, but if I could go back to any time in my life, I'd go back to being 21 or 22 in college. |

| 4 years once this one is over for me. I just realized I wanted to do nursing in about a month after registration ended and ended up way behind on sciences. So I'm now on the 5 year plan of total college. FML |

Chad H, bullchit on the FML... 5 years is the best college plan. I loved my victory lap. I had 12 hours my last semester, 6 of which were pass / fail. I had so much fun that semester. Didn't want it to end. _________________ Work SUX! |

in hind sight I would have done things differently!!!!!!!!
With the worlds economy the outlook is bleak, I would either go for Masters or Phd or change my major and stay another two years min.
just my words of advice

Chad H, the smarter & least expensive thing to do for Nursing is this:
- Jr College get AS in nursing
- Start working in an ICU ( this specific) at a hospital that will pay for your BSN. Get to know the Anesthesiogist while working in the ICU. Most places the Gas passing MDs also do CC for the ICUs
- Once you've finished your BSN while working in the ICU, apply to CRNA programs ( Many Anesthesia groups are a separate entity from the hospital) and see if the anesthesia department will sponsor.
Reasons:
-All you need is an AS ( which is 2 yrs) to be eligible for RN license exam.
-BSN programs will not ( majority from what I've been informed) let you apply/take RN exam until you've graduated their program.
-BSN programs are geared more towards administration, not patient care.
-Having earned a AS, you'll be ahead of many BSN grads when it comes to on hands patient care.
- Going on to becoming a CRNA ( RN anesthetist) you are in demand and you can get some nice travel assignments. State licensure is much easier because you come under an RN license which most states have reciprocity.
** But you need to do the research on this is coming out of CA, was the situation. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

MAY 10TH: GRADUATION!
I cannot wait. 40 some-odd more days.
*HOPEFULLY* heading to grad school in August though, so the only thing I am looking forward to is more school, but I just wanna get outta UCONN.

Dragonlady8, the AS 2 year plan was my plan in the beginning, until the junior college programs became super impacted and there was a few hundred people on the waiting list. Plus I hear the BSN step up programs are just as impacted. I decided to just get the college experience and apply to the BSN program on my current campus.
But if you can easily get into an AS program and the BSN step up program is no problem to get into i'd definitely go the 2 year route, even though you would miss out on the college experience. |

Damn didn't know you were that young.
Anyway, I'm on the 5 year plan as well, so 3 more to go. |

Jensen, It all depends upon what you want in life. You can still get the college experience with the step up program - but not have to worry as much about the financial aspect of it all.
Going the 4 yr BSN route would definitely put you into a $$$ blackhole when you're out.
Trust me - they maybe advertising RN positions all over the country, but they're looking for experienced RNs. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

Aubs,
It's funny your leaving UCONN. My roommate from Connecticut has decided the south wasn't him (Thankfully) and is transferring to UCONN in the fall.
We have an empty room if auburn is the right school for you. |

May 15 for me
Start the real job June 1st though ... moving to Lafayette, La.
I'm contemplating pushing my start date back to July 1, but I have no money to do anything cool in that time... so I'd just be sitting around doing nothing until I start work. |
