Any one know why I am not able to transfer my videos or music from the external hard drive (plugged into the PS3 controller port)

I googled it and from what it sounds an extra menu option should appear however I cant seem to locate any option to access my folders stored on the external through the PS3

Any suggestions?

From what I can find I may need to formart my external to the fat32 format? Not really sure what exactly that is or if that is the case.
