I just found THIS boat -
http://www.salvagedirect.com/asp/viewitem.asp?itemid=704274
Looks like the Hull is in good shape but it pretty much stops there.
Im seriously thinking about bidding on it. I have some experience in vehicle Restoration, and I also think its Fun!
Looks like this thing would need a Lot of work at the end of the day though.
I emailed them - asked what happened, and what is the extent of the damage, also what It might go for in an auction.
If the price is right, ( like 3K) I might do it.
These are a little scary

The motors in those things are damn near indestructable. However, the block may be cracked because I'm assuming it wasn't winterized. A new set of skins for that boat is only like 2.5k. |

They Couldn't tell me any more than what the Insurance company says -
It was Hurricane Damage, and It was Totaled. -
Also, I have to have some type of marine related Business licence to register and Bid on their auctions. I may be able to buddy up with a marina, ect, to get registered to bid, but I don't know.
First Green one i've ever seen |

It was ,and is, In Houston, so it might not have cracked. definately Flooded.
What do you think it would be worth?
Even if it goes for 8-9K you put in 10k of engine and interior into it you get a great Boat. |

If it was flooded, say worst case scenario, would the electrical system be shot?
guages, pumps, Perfect Pass all that stuff?
Now that I've though about it a while, two things come to mind that would be big problems.
1. I can't see it up close, unless I register with the salvage auction company, and I fly to Houston, so this means I spend $$ to really get a feel for how bad it is.
2. I don't think anyone would want to give me a loan to spend the money needed to fix it up. what would be the collateral?... a totaled boat?
I agree w you about the cost, but I would never bid 8-9K on that thing. If I got outbid at 3-4K I'd be done.
I think it's too much. I may post this on team MC and let them have at it. |

DO IT! That would be an awesome project! Sure it might be costly but the pride of doing up your own boat the way you want it to be would be amazing.
My group and I ran into another group on the lake we go to in Deland, FL yesterday and they had an Epic, which I thought was sick. They came to the dock and we got to talking because I wanted to check out the boat. I could tell it was an older model but not exactly what year. I asked the guy and he says it was a 2004 demo 23V. I guess the boat was abandoned in some guys yard and was rotting. He redid the ballast system and the upholstery and it looks pretty good for a DIY fix. |

Problem is once you rebuild the engine, tranny,v drive, cables, controls, wiring, perfectpass, interior and the hundred things that can't be predicted all you end up with is a salvage titled boat that you can't ever sell. _________________ NC//OKC\\ |

if it got flooded with salt water, the electrical system is shot, or will be in short time. and i doubt they winterized it. but if u can pick it up for 3, i say go for it. u could completly go through the boat for 10k if you do auto restos. not much different, alot of interior work, and not that much bodie work. i think you could def get your money out of it in the end. _________________ trying to find a $5-7K usable saltare if anyone knows of one. |

The title states Tx.-clean title, so it might be worth it. I guess if it was me I'd have to see it first, or get an appraisal. Like you said, spend $$ just to go look, probably not worth it. Now if ya had a friend in Tx. that could look it over for ya, that would be the way to go. _________________

Its tempting but,
Its just not in the cards. I have specific instructions from the "admiral" that the boat is not to be a "Big Project".
That Malibu must have got tagged by a car!
The Bid is at $28,000, (new zealand) |
