Getting used to a new board

Hmm okay so just wondering if you guys buy and keep different types of boards in your collections and how you find the difference in ride.

I started with a LF Angel 130, with Alloy bindings, which I love to bits, fast board, plenty of pop, take the big middle fins off and it's super slippery.

I have just gone over to a Hyperlite Blur 136 with Blur bindings and I also love the ride on this. Ditched the middle fins also. But this board really sticks it when edging, so I can go real hard, much more pop as it has a 3 stage rocker as opposed to the continuous rocker on the Angel.

Now the only issue I have here, is that I was able to do surface 180's really easy with the Angel, but finding it a bit more tricky with the Blur. I can do it, but seem to have to put a little more effort into it. Maybe because the board is somewhat bigger - I don't know.

So what do you guys find when you change board? I'm keeping both, because I love the fast, squirly, outta control feel of the Angel, but my jumps are already progressing big time with the Blur.

Trade offs, trade offs - hmmm

The difference is in the fins. The angel has those cupped fins with a rounded outside profile, which lets it release very easily. the fin on the blur are very long and much more pronounced, so they hold the water a lot harder.

Indeed, so I guess I'm just going to have to work a bit harder to release them.

This is the reason I sold my Premier, which I think is the mens version of the Blur. I was used to my Trip that I could break loose a lot easier.

warwagon what did you go to after the trip? I rode a 138 all this last season with domains and I'm lookin to buy a new board in the next offseason. I've been waitin to ask this question cause not many people have said anything about ridin trips

Ahhhh don't tell me that! I'm going to persevere, as I really do love the sticky hold of the Blur and it's giving me so much more confidence in the jumps now as it really pops off the wake.

Chocoholic, you should get a three-stage board with smaller fins. Try a LF Jett, I promise you'll love it. Its nice and loose, and pops like a balloon on a bed of needles

Never mind! I nailed it during a half hour coaching session this morning. Surface 180's and swtiching on top of the wake both sides. Riding really well switch now too.

Surface 360's and 180 landings next!
