Interesting. But, will that mean you don't get to hear the throaty rumble of that sexy V-8? _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?
flixmaster, I would if I had the money. In the long run it is absolutely going to save you money on gas consumption. An hour session without a drop of gas?? That's almost half of an after work/school sesh. _________________ Keep Austin Weird
If this was offered on all the top wakeboard boats do you think you would see more on the water?? _________________ Wakeskating Ronix Wakeboards Wakeboarding
flixmaster, you ever seen the Century out on the water? It's dock is down by the LA Marina. Red and runs an American flag off the back. That thing is the most gorgeous sound ever... 454 (I think that's the engine). My buddy owns the boat, and it's a beast. _________________ Keep Austin Weird
buddy has a built 460 in his jetboat. sounds awesome at idle, but it gets real old after an hour or so on the lake and having to talk over it. I love a good v8, but i'd invest a few $$ if there was a way to make my indmar 5.7 even quieter. hearing tunes and conversation is better imo...
wonder if the battery pack is weighted on one side or the other for surfing in the epic??
since they mention the co2 poisoning, does that mean it runs on lead acid batteries? perhaps this info is available, i just didnt google it.
you could have one hell of a perfect pass with an electric motor, even have the boat accelerate based on orientation and direction of movement of the rope and such
From what I understand it has an electric motor that has a generator back up. I may be wrong but that's how I interpreted it. Also in one article I read it said that it was a cheaper alternative. I don't know if they meant cheaper because of the savings on gas prices or the boat itself. Either way props to Epic. They have gone above and beyond the other companies to produce this boat. If I can afford one it will be my first wakeboarding boat. _________________ Sportbike Track Time Southern Division Instructor
yea the video is horrible, but i think it's only to get attention right now.. At some point there will be an in depth write up and video/pictures to go along with it. _________________ Wake Forest University
nice boat, but why ruin it with that wrap? ugly if you ask me
Yeah, that was also bothering me.

I've seen people wakeboarding, I've seen a boat make cool splashy turns.
What I have NOT seen is a marine hybrid electric engine...show it to me, with detail. Let me hear how quiet it is etc.
precisely. Also, the cuts are too fast, not always in time, the music sucked, and some of the shots were a) repetitive and b) stupid. For such an awesome concept as this, and for a boat company (especially involved in a sport where good editing is almost part of it with all the videos etc.) they should have higher quality than that. I know they're small, and I love them for having the "umph" to stick it through and start to make it as a company... and at the same time PUSH the industry, but I know you can do better than this.

I can't wait for that, this is incredibly intriguing. _________________ Keep Austin Weird
i would just guess, that the motor setup on this boat is heavier than a gasoline configuration. That may not be a bad thing since we add ballast to the boats anyway, but you dont have the freedom to re/move the ballast to make adjustments or long treks to the corner of lake powell that you desire.
99% of the wakeboarding i do is after work for 3-4 hours before it gets dark, so for me this would not be all that bad. perhaps the electric model would circumvent the rule about having petrol motors on some lakes here in boulder-hippie land. who knows, maybe the state will even cut you a check as an incentive like they do for buying hybrids.
i would guess that the motor is burshless and has a very long TBO. if the batteries where lipo or lion's then huge props to epic. however sed technology is not cheap and would cost more than its worth IMO.
The lack of that nice v8 sound might get replaced by the ability to talk to the rider without yelling, and it would definantly make it easier to talk to the rider while you were surfing. If CC or Malibu did this I'd be more excited I think. Having not ridden in one myself, I've heard the design of the interior is less than ideal and the fit n' finish is less than great. I don't think the hybrid drive is enough to sell a boat to me, other things are more important.
great concept, if anything else just use e-power to and from riding spots,
one question though (the lack of technical information is frustrating)
does it (the batteries) recharge itself when the V8 is running? like a car hybrid?
or do you have to go to the dock or home to plug it in to recharge.
ie once you use your 1 hour of batterys your done? if this is the case, its the worse i idea ever. batterys will have no life. they are not designed to be drained like that. _________________

And another reason wakeboarding is better than surfing, you die less, that means you have another day to wakeboard, which is more fun than surfing anyway.
STANG KILLA SS, I thought it said that it could be fully recharged by a generator, which implies running time. But also plug it in to a 110v or 220v outlet. Too lazy to scroll all the way back up, but I tried to memorize it all because this is important to me, so i'm pretty sure that's true. _________________ Keep Austin Weird
