|
|
Im gunna grab a board for the upcoming summer, but dont really know where too start.
First I need help buying a board. Im pretty sure I wanna buy one now cause it seems like there all on sale cause its winter. What sites should i look at for the best prices?
Second I need help picking and sizing a board for me. Im 5' 10" and 135-140 lbs.
Idk if its like snowboarding but im regular stanced, wanna try some tricks. Im looking for a more intermediate level board, I hate dealing with the beginner crap it doesn't push you too learn more and it gives you limitations.
So any recommendations for specific boards would be greatly appreciated. |

Well, a good starting size for you would be around 135-138cm range. And because you snowboard you would likely like a looser board, so look for rounded edges and smaller fins. Will feel a lot "butter-ier" for you on the water and be a little more comfortable from the start. Plus I think these are just much more fun. A few boards I can think of off the top of my head like that would be most of Liquid Force's line, some CWB boards, and definitely all of the flex boards. There are a lot of boards out there that are Intermediate/Advanced style boards that would be great beginner boards, but still push you. Some will say almost all boards will work, and this is true, but there are always some shapes that are a little better suited to their jobs in my opinion.
Good luck with the search for a board, I'll try to throw a few specific suggestions up _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

SKIPPY PB, I would say that of those boards the PS3 is the best buy. I haven't personally ridden it, but from what I know it's a board that I think would be good for all levels. Also, the price is pretty damn good for a pro model (or very, very recently an ex-pro model).
The Trip is also a time proven favorite of many, it's been around for years and years. It's a great shape, but if I'm not mistaken I think it is a more locked in ride, and this may be undesirable to you with your snowboarding background. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

| if you come from a snowboard background, i would REALLY suggest looking into some flex boards. Like Company or Slingshot. A lot more of the same feel, i would assume it would be more a more "natural" feeling for you. Just my 2 cents. |

Im not that locked into snowboarding though. I come from all different backrounds. Hockey, skiing, skateboarding, snowboarding, BMXing flatland and some dirtjumping, sesh-o-nomics, dirtbiking, you name it. I can pick up anything, dont know if i can get past beginner/intermidate level though. |

SKIPPY PB, doesn't mean you are locked in to snowboarding. But it's just a tendency for people who do snowboard/snowboard first to like the more snowboard-esque feel of a looser board. It just helps the transition (and I personally think that looser boards are the better choice anyway, because with proper technique you can RAIL on your edges with a flat bottom board, but still have the ability to slide willy nilly if you want). Support boardstop if you can, it's a great shop, good people, and a real-deal small boarshop!
Also, I did mention the flex boards before. I ride a Slingshot Response and L.O.V.E. it. If you have the time/patience, definitely worth checking out too. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

Well im sold there, maybe I took it in wrong but from my understanding the PS3 is a loose (dont no if thats the right terminology im just catching on) board just not as loose as a flex or slingshot.
As for boardstop, yeah im down for that. My first impressions where you guys are just in cahoots but thats cool.
Secondly, i would prefer a buttery board. Im boarder line reconsidering. Although looking at the flexs ive seen there pretty boring designs, pretty ugly in my opinion. I mean not that looks should affect anything but since the PS3 looks cooler then the ones ive seen. And so many people seem to like them and i was thinking it was buttery.
So ill look into the flexs and let you know what it think.
^^^ Im gunna leave that up there to show how discombobulated my brain is. A flex board is a style of board if im not mistaken right? Now i feel stupid, but yeah im looking at some company boards too. |
