Ok so currently riding the Ronix One 142. Like this board for being a mellow feel, but at the same time I'm wanting to get back on a fast board, rode the Covin and liked it in some aspects, like speed.

I see a lot of people talking about the flex boards, I did some searching but didn't really find the answer I wanted. If I were to ride a flex board, am I going to get a lot of speed out of it? I know the whole point is for the board to do the popping for you, but I still wanna rip into the wake and sail into the flats.

I'm not dead set on a flex board but it's new board time as my One feels too slow now. I don't have any bias for which board or which company I'm just really interested in the flex boards and I was wondering which one of those would give me what I wanted.

If you have good edging technique, the boards will be able to be fast for you. If you have bad edging technique, then it will be an adjustment, but then they will be fast for you then. I ride the SS Response (LOVE IT), and I find it fast enough for me. I rode a LF Substance before, which is not the fastest board out there, but not the slowest, and I would say they have comparable speeds, but because of the continuous rocker of the Response, it has the ability to be faster than the Substance. I personally just don't really use the speed of boards because I like to take very mellow progressive cuts and take my pop floaty and straight up.

I think that flex boards are just like normal boards in that some are fast and some are slow. You just have to look at the rocker lines, the fin configurations etc. Hopefully someone else with more experience on some of the other models available will chime in here and give you an opinion on those. Good luck in the board search, and don't forget the brand new flex companies that are coming out this year.

The only new one I've seen is Company, I like the recruit it looks nice but I think as of now if I were to buy a flex it would be the recoil from ss. Although I am kinda skeptic on going three stage again, because of speed. If anybody has ridden both I'd love to hear your comparison, really the only reason I'm putting so much interest in flex boards is that it seems that everybody swears by them. And in the end I want to be shot off that wake like a ball out of a cannon.

the recoils are nice, and light too, especially the drop in swing weight the 08 recoil 142 is a pound lighter than my 08 140 shane and a massive drop in swing weight. the 09 recoil 142 is 3/4 pound lighter, and alot stiffer threw the middle than the 08, big drop in swing weight too over the shane.
the 09 SS and companys are nearly identical. rumored same factory even.

I've got a recoil, I don't necessarily think it pops more than non flex. It's still more fun to ride IMO though.

I just switched from a LF shane to a new Company 142 Severance. I'd have to say that there is quite a big difference between the two in just about every aspect. Lighter, slightly faster, looser (espcially nice transition off the top of the wake), really good pop, but most of all the landings are super smooth. I feel so much more comfortable going bigger on this board. Taking tricks bigger is easier, and less damaging to my knees Very Happy. Another unexpected benefit is that it's even more fun to just ride (carving, ollies, lip slides, etc), and to play around with the flex. Personally my favorite board i've ridden.

A friend of mine is riding the Company Limited board, that thing has serious pop! Super slippy and loose. It basically looks like a snowboard design, only wider, super smooth on the underside.

Ya so today I spoke to a company rep via email and told him what I was riding and what I wanted. Told him I just wanted a very fast board with a lot of pop. I get a lot of pop out of the but I wanna take stuff further out like I could on the covin. He said he had been in the same predicament before he picked which board he chose and ended up stickin with the recruit. So I think within the next few months I will be ordering my recruit 143. Pretty excited to say the least!

Personally I've decided I don't particularly like Company as a company. Their "Gangsta" thing they have goin on is just not my style. I suppose a lot of that has to do with Randal tha Vandal's involvement with the company, but still. Some of their boards do look real nice, however. Still... Sling Shot... or maybe Humanoid FTMFW! Laughing

I could care less, spray paint covers everything. And the recruit does not look gangster at all.

logan, I just meant the company itself. I don't know, some of it's about this "hard" image. Not so much their graphics, I actually kinda like em, but I was just voicing a meaningless opinion about the advertising/image they aim for. Just kinda needed to get it off my chest cause I've just had that feeling for some reason and no way to vent it, it's not even like I care that much, just had it itchin to say Laughing
