Hi everyone! This is my first post. First, let me just say that this is a very helpful board for beginners like me. I've learned a lot just reading all your posts. Keep it up!
Now, a little info about myself.. I'm new to wakeboarding. I just bought a liquid force omega with index bindings. I can do jumpstarts and am pretty happy with my edging. Just recently, i was able to master switching. I ride regular but I forced myself to learn to ride goofy and switch to better my learning curve. I usually ride at a local cablepark.
My problem right now is maintaining balance after approaching a corner. As you may know, when nearing a corner, the rope slacks a bit and then suddenly tightens causing a sudden increase in speed. What happens to me is that the sudden increase in speed causes me to lose balance and fall (sometimes faceplant, sometimes on by back). The cable operator saw me and told me to try edging to the rightmost part of the buoy to lessen the slack. This is when I forced myself to learn to ride goofy as it is harder for me to get to the rightmost part of the buoy when riding regular. Anyway, when I already got my goofy down, I was able to get to the rightmost part of the buoy (sometimes even OUTSIDE the buoy) but still there's slack and the sudden increase of speed still affects my balance.
I've been watching the pros approach the corners with slack but manage to stay up even after the rope has tightened again. May I ask for tips on how to approach the corners?
PS i'll probably buy "the book" since a lot of you swear by it.
Thanks in advance! |

Well you wont learn anything in The Book about wakeboarding at a cable, its only for behind a boat (exceptions are made).
The trick of doing a good corner is for a goofy footed person not that difficult. Before the corner, go with (away from the corner). Then when you see the hook (the line) turning turn yourself (by edging) towards where the cable wants you to go. Then you will have a good easy corner. _________________

| Practice. I hug the outside of the turn to keep slack out when the cable makes the turn. |

| Thanks for the replies. I tried turning to the direction where the cable wants me to go right before the line gets tension again. It worked! I can now go around the lake easily. Thanks Again! |
