|
|
So I am currently trying to remove all fat sac applications from my boat. I want to turn the front ski locker in the boat into a tank that holds water. I'm no stranger to fiberglassing and installing custom crap, but I do have a question about the integrity of that white plastic box.
Basically the front ski locker is a white plastic box that is attached to the floorboards of the boat. If you run your hand under the box, you'll notice it never comes in contact with the bottom of the hull.
My question is this. Can I completely fill this compartment up with water on a regular basis and expect that locker to hold its structural integrity? I'm worried about the ski locker box ripping out of the floorboard and dropping onto the hull.

Of course there is no straight answer for that question but....
How much of a fat sac have you ran in there before?
Measure the box to find how many gallons of water it would hold, gallons of water are like 7.9 lbs. Find out the total weight it would be and see how much more weight that is than the fat sac you had in there. Then just roll the dice.

See that's the problem, I haven't had anything in there yet. I was hoping someone else on here owned a sunsetter and had experience with this question. Actually it doesnt seem to me like many people here ride sunsetters. I hear a lot about supras here, but not too much about malibus. Maybe I'm just imagining things. The safe route could always be just setting on top of the locker in the alley way and say screw it to putting it down below...
I don't think im going to be able to make the ballasts like i was thinking

I'd play around with weight first to see if it will work for you. If you want a cheap way to test weight, get some of those long skinny sandbags they sell at Home Depot or Lowe's. Those are 60 pounds each less than $5.
