Most miserable city? Chicago ranks No. 3

Chicago is third on the list of America's most miserable cities, according to Forbes Magazine, trailing only Stockton, Calif., and Memphis.

Why? Says Forbes: "Lousy weather, long commutes, rising unemployment and the highest sales tax rate in the country are to blame for the Windy City being near the top of our list. High rates of corruption by public officials didn't help either."

The magazine studies the 150 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the U.S., which meant those with a population of at least 378,000, and ranked those areas in these categories: commute times, corruption, pro sports teams, Superfund sites, taxes (both income and sales), unemployment, violent crime and weather.

The other cities in the top 10, in order, are: Cleveland, Modesto, Calif., Flint, Mich., Detroit, Buffalo, Miami, and St. Louis.

It was the second time the magazine has come out with this rating. Detroit was the most miserable city a year ago. Chicago was sixth.

I choose to not focus on the negatives and enjoy what I can here. There are plenty of pros to go along with all those negatives. I haven't found a place in the US that'd I'm willing to pick up and move to yet, although I'm sure I can find happiness almost anywhere.

There are tons of opportunities in and around Chicago.

Nobody likes traffic, that one just sucks. Cubs FAIL.

Some people like snow, getting sprayed with slush from the bus sucks though.

I don't really care about the corrupt politics. This can be an issue anywhere.

4hr DIRECT cheap flights to almost anywhere in the continental US. I've been to Florida, Texas and California in the last 3 weeks. This makes for a quick winter.

Hollywood, If you started a business and had to deal with the corruption your views would change.

I don't mind the snow, the traffic, ehhh, open road tolling has helped, the TAX rate and the loss of jobs and the lack of progression are the keys for me.

We have been ranked 50th out of 50 cities in progression from Wired mag. This city is not moving forward in any aspect.

Alter Ego, Buffalo does suck! But they don't have the traffic or the high tax rates like us.

In addition, Toronto is only a few hrs away.
