I'm new to the forum so not sure if this is the right place to post but I figure it'd be a start.

I have a 21' dual console outboard fishing boat with a tower that we've been riding behind. I've got it weighted with about 500 lbs of ballast and at 22mph the wake is a good height and form. Although I'm a newbie, I'm edging hard with a good progrssive edge and I'm getting solid pop off the wake with 4-5' of air.

The problem I'm having is clearing the wake behind my boat. Behind a wake boat (Calabria or Malibu), I can land solidly in flat but on my boat I land on top of the wake almost every time - which has been murder on my knees. I find I can only clear it when I just shoot across the wakes at speed and don't try to pop properly but this gives me no height and bad technic.

I'm convinced because my boat is not wakeboard specific that the wakes are too wide (althought I could be wrong). Is there anything I can do to narrow the gap - more speed, more weight, shorter rope, etc... or a combination?

Thanks in advance and I appreciate all the feedback.

my guess would be that the wake behind your fishing boat isn't as solid as the wake behind the wakeboats you have ridden behind.

thank for the advise about shortening the rope. I was riding 70' and I dropped it down to about 60' last night. Cleared the wake on every hs jump and started doing tail grabs and indy grabs. Now to work on the ts!

Thank to everyone who post on this website. Since I've only been riding since June (and obsessed with it), I've gained a ton of knowledge here - I appreciate it.

Also try what Bass said.. try wieghting different parts of boat (mostly shifting in the full range from aft to bow). Moving the wieght forward or back will change the shape of the hull that is pushing water and will impact the wake.
