I need some suggestions on fisheye/ wide angle lenses to check out for a canon 10d?
I'm super new to photography, so any help would be great.
My friend upgraded cameras and sold me his 10d with vertical grip for a price I couldn’t pass up. I would like to get a relatively cheap wide angle lens for it.
Thanks |

if you REALLY want that fisheye effect, get the sigma 8mm. it's about 600 bucks though.
here are some sample shots _________________ my demo reel

I love my Sigma 15mm f/2.8. More about it here, with some sample shots I took also. My favorite thing about this lens is the really wide angle, but low amount of distortion (the "rounding" of everything in the picture). If you are looking for really circular shots, this probably wouldn't be the lens for you. But when I was shopping for a wide angle I looked at a lot of sample shots from different lenses and found that the ones that had too much distortion got really old really quick. I like being able to take a wide, but mostly "normal" looking, shot with this lens. At about $500 I think its a good deal on a fast lens. _________________

And have variable aperture? No thanks.
The sigma 15mm is a good choice. I was going to include the Tokina 11-16 or 12-24 - depending on what your price range is. Neither will give a fisheye effect though. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/damoncall/

the 10D does not have an ef-s mount. you can modify an ef-s lens to fit(so the mirror does not slap the back of the lens), but really?
Make sure you find a lens designed for the ef mount and you'll be golden! _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

Thanks guys,
the part i haven't decided on yet is if i want that "rounding" effect.
I will primarily be shooting wake and skateboard stuff, lifestyle and a bit of snowboarding mixed in. I wanted a wide angle to do some over head shots, and really close stuff, (dock, ladder, tube-eventually). With these angles in mind, would you rather have a lens that creates the rounding effect or stick to just a wide angle? |

The canon 15mm fish might be perfect for you, you can get the fishy affect if you want(minor, but its there on 1.6) and you have a really wide angle to play with.
Scott A shoots with one on a 1.3 and it kinda gives you a nice medium between the two _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

You really have to ask yourself what lens would be most condusive to the type of phography you are going to do. I borrowed a Tokina 10-17 fish and it was so circular that I barely used it. It was sharp but just not the effect I needed so I used my 17-35 more often. _________________

I notice most wakesurfing shots seem to be taken with a wide angle / slight fisheye lens. What would be a good lens for that? _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

Depends on what camera you are shooting with, and how circular you want the shots to be. _________________

I haven't bought that yet either. More than likely a D-80. And not very circular. The goal being more of the wide angle, 0 zoom shots. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |
