They are stiffer and taller, and easier to get in and out of. They no longer have the wrap-style liner, which is not really noticeable comfort-wise, but it did reduce some of the bulk and bunching in front of your ankle. As for the weight, I put a pair of 08's (plate and all) and a pair of 09's (with the new plate) on the scale at work and I think it was like 1.4 lbs different. most of that weight is from the plate though. Unfortunately, if your putting them on an older board, you need the angle lock kit, which weighs 1.85 lbs, but are very beefy. _________________
