The base coat is down and now I am "hacking" out the masking for the white horizontal stripes. I'll be doing both top and bottom, and want the stripes to flow around the rails.
This will take ages!!!! |

The masking tape will cover the white and that will become the white stripes upon removal. You can't see it, but I have I have covered the deck with paper to prevent overspray.
The second picture is the black. After this I will apply the offcut tape to leave the pinlines for the red. |

Masking off the black stripes. This is picture is an inverse representation of what the board will look like. Tomorrow I'll lay down the red pins. |

Two coats of red, I think I'll shoot 4 to make sure I have good coverage over the black. |

The masking will come off today. I started with the first few "stripes" at the nose and I think I'll let it bake a little more before proceeding, but this is a glimpse of what it will look like when unmasked. |

Thanks Medina. Unmasked, I'm pleased with the look. Still undecided about the deck, though. |

I decided to wrap the graphics around the rails onto the deck. I'm not confident that I've done a good job where the red pins match up, but I think the white and black stripes will come out closely. |

We are heading out tomorrow, so I traction'ed up this build. I'll get some ride pictures. This build came in at 4 pound 5 oz with fins and traction. In comparison, an IS Green weighs in around 8+ pounds. |

Wow Jeff that came out really nice. Now is that the same type of built I posted about on the other site? The resin8 boards? I love the gfx on that, wild! _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

Hey Rhawn,
Thanks. This is the same basic construction as the Resin8. The principaly difference is the rails. I glued up solid sections of Divinycell, whereas the Resin8 folks wrap their rails with the 3mm Divinycell as a continuation of the deck. Plus I used Kevlar and Zylon, whereas those folks use fiberglass. But the principal is the same.
We got a chance to ride it today, even though it was freezing balls cold. It rode really well. I'm pleased with the construction methodology and the final product. |

surfdad, Do you design boards in AKU shaper? Or in a software that could be opened by AKU shaper. I am going to try and make a hollow wood wake surfer but cannot find any plans. My budy only has a skim board style which I could model it after. However, that style may be too thin for HWS and I would like to try out a more traditional surfboard design.
That being said, I cannot find plans for a wakesurf HWS. I was wondering if you had any plans or new someone that would be willing to share some. I am not looking for anyones cutting edge break through secret design, just a basic shape.
If you don't ever design them using software, some general guidelines, so I could design it would also be helpful:
Length, center width, tail width, rocker at nose, rocker at tail, thickness, etc...
Thanks |

Hey Nooga678,
I do use AKU, but I don't have access to a CNC frequently, so most everything I do is by hand.
The single best source, I know of, for HWS's is Paul Jensen. He offers a DVD that explains every step - I think it's like $100. He also has templates/plans for around $50. The HWS's require some specific reinforcement steps and Paul's "how-to" is very detailed.

They certainly are gorgeous boards! I hope that helps, let me know if I can give you any more guidance. |

Thanks for the info surfdad. I have checked out that sight as well as some others. I really don't have the money to spend on a DVD or plans right now. What little money I have for the project will go into supplies. You can use a design from AKU to design the skeleton, so the board doesn't have to completely designed as a HWS in AKU. There is another freeware program that will take elements from AKU and turn the into PDF templates. Obviously this is a lot more complicated and more work than ordering full size templates, but it is the cheaper option which I must choose. If you have one you are willing to share, it would be appreciated, but if not I understand.
Thanks |

Oh, your just looking for some .brd files? Let me check on my laptop at home, that's where I work with AKU and I'll let you know. |

That would be great.
I can get the templates for this board for a $5 or $10 donation to the Tree to Sea Planting Fund

How do you think it would work as a wakesurfer. I realize it is a little long, but I would be going more for a cruiser, and not so much performance. It also might be a good one to teach people on.
Before I completely hijack your thread and this becomes a dialog, we might want to move to email.

I like that fish! It's not overly large, the IS Blue is in that size and Triple X made a swallow fish just like that, it was a blast to ride.
The only concern I would have is the swallow tail it self. The tail block is built up. Typically alternating layers of wood and cork. Getting that tight radius as it moves out towards the rails can be a pain. You might end up have to "manage" the tail block different than the plan. Otherwise, I love that shape and think you'd have a great HWS. The thickness gives you something to work with, also.
I say go for it! |

That's awesome. Any tips on how to learn that pumping technique? I can ride along fine, but whenever I start to try that I wash off the back. Also, what speed do you all ride at?
I am still interested in a .brd file for a performance wakesurfer board if you got one you are willing to share.
Great videos! |

Thanks...on the pumping, I'd try practicing it with a rope for awhile, shifting weight to your front foot until you get forward motion. We typically ride at 11 mph.
I checked my laptop and it looks like I didn't save any of the.brd files. I gave up on the one plan shape I was using that for. |
