|

So, I have been wondering how I should tweak my work out over the winter for better strength for wakeboarding. I just picked up the sport last summer about midway through the season. Plus, this is the first board sport I have ever put any effort into.
SO, I am generally athletic, played many varsity sports in high school. Tennis, Basketball, and Football. However its been 10 years since I have taken any of those seriously. I have, however, stayed in shapy by going to the gym, lifting weights, and doing some cardio. I think my issue is that I am 6' and 225. Even if I have a 34" waist, bench 315 and squat 400+ (never really tried to max out), I think my weight and areas of strenght are not the best for wakeboarding.
I do notice that most of the pro riders are generally muscular, so I have been wondering what are some exercises to focus on? _________________ Always looking for others who ride on Norris Lake in TN

Box jumps have had the most noticable difference in my riding and balance...Do some different variations on it. I do some 2-3ft vert box jumps with weight as well as some distance jumps to an anchored bench...to vary it up once you get those down, make sure you do a full spring off the bench after landing, and then start landing on 1 foot and do the same...
Your 315 bench won't do much good on the board, but that leg strength should come in real handy...Shift your focus to circuits and keeping your HR high, as well as increased focus on back/bi and leg days and higher reps on leg days...a one-time 400lb squat is great, but remember that riding is better simulated by a few thousand 180-200lb squats _________________ <insert witty banter here> |

i like to get on the cables at the gym, lower the pulley to just above my waist, stand 90* to the pulley (like riding) and with straight bar attachment pull the "handle" to my hips just like riding.
kinda fun and makes ya feel like your riding when ya cant _________________
