Well while I hate to admit it, I was a skier and always wanted to try wakeboarding. Then when I started working at West Marine and found out I got a huge discount on boards, I bought myself an obrien 8 ball (what a POS) but I got up my first try and was absolutely hooked. I still ski every once in awhile just to see if I still can but wakeboarding is where my heart is

intotheflats, that's pretty much exactly how I started, bought a wakeboard at sports authority (O'Brien Buzz), and loved it. I still like to slalom though from time to time, it's fun to mess around with all the old boards we have stashed in our boathouse closet.

Krent, yea it's cool to slalom once a year or so. It's crazy how I can ride all day but I can only do 1 or 2 sets on a slalom and I feel like i'm gonna die

Got into wakeboarding watching Brian Aurthur ride on my lake. I used to sit on the patio just watching this guy do "giant supermans" and huge front flips and "backflips" and had to try it. Got up my first try and rode for about 6 months when I heard Brian gave lessons. I was riding behind a sea doo jet boat and I remember the first time I went riding on his mastercraft 205 dd sacked out the wake was the biggest thing I had ever seen. It basically started there...

A friend of mine bought a boat and invited me to come out to the lake. I got hooked the first day. I was looking for a change from being at the track all the time and found it.

Buddy of mine had an older HL Vashon in his garage that I kept noticing every time I went to his house. Finally got him to loan it to me for a couple of months. Ended up being my first board-still got it for those who want to learn behind my boat.

Kneeboarding at about 2/3, skiing at 3/4 (slalom at 5 or 6), wakeboarding at 7. Just grew up skiing, dad bought a wakeboard, got hooked. Quit skiing at 12.

My grandparents had a lakehouse about an hour from us my whole life. Started skiing when I was 10 and as soon as I saw wakeboarding I was interested. I didn't get the chance to try until just before my Sr. year of highschool when I went to camp. Learned how to get up and ride at camp then demo'd boards for the next year until I bought my own. Next year it will be a 10 year love.

Started skiing when I was 4, then got a skurfer for my 8th grade graduation. Haven't looked at my slalom since. I guess that means I've been riding sideways for almost 14 years now.

Surfed and snowboarded through college. Moved to Austin (i.e. no ocean to surf in). Wakeboarding just started to get popular, I love sideways sports, and thought I need to do this. Bought a boat, a wakeboard, a rope, a DVD (Higher Education) taught myself. Then I started to meet and ride with friends who own really nice wakeboard boats, sold my boat, upgraded my board....and here I am today!

In 05 went to the lake with my dad and my lil' brother had picked up a small HL board. Tried it and could not get enough. By the middle of 08 I am on my third boat and have approximatley 5 boards in the garage. No telling how many of my friends I have turned on to the sport.

Saw it on the internet one time and always wanted to try it...finally got to a few years ago cuz people at our lake had one and they couldn't get up. and my dad helped them with their jet ski and in return they let us try it. Got up right away and been hooked ever since. It was just a ol' body glove board.

I waterskiied occasionally but we lived on a lake (later it became just a vacation home, but still was there a lot) and one day one of my friends/family friends took us out on their old ski supreme and showed us this "cool new thing we picked up." (wakeboard) I saw my friend go on the boom and thought it was super cool. This other girl that was out with us went first (behind the boat, not boom). She got up like 2nd try but she didnt know you were supposed to go sideways. Laughing She went about halfway down the cove in a powerslide. I went next, got up 2nd try and have been hooked ever since (I was Cool. Never will forget that first time. Thanks Delhi family!
