Well with all the fuss about the Iphone, it will be nice to see if this can live up to the hype. I need to use a Blackberry, so this would be a nice upgrade.

Just curious if anyone else is eyeing these?

From what I've seen it's received mediocre reviews. Text entry seems to be a problem on it.

Yeah. I've kinda been looking into that thing because I'm waiting for someone to release a phone that's "as good as" the iPhone, but so far the Storm doesn't seem to be up to that task.

AppleInsider has a good wrap up of what all of the 'big name' gadget reviewers thought about the Storm. http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/11/20/review_roundup_rims_new_touchscreen_blackberry_storm.html

I heard it was pretty good but not the iPhone. I'm still on the fence between switching to a smart phone for my personal.

Rumor is that they're pretty much sold out, and if you didn't order one earlier today, you won't be able to get one until at least dec. 5th

I went to the Verizon store just a little while ago to get my phone serviced and JR is right. It's sold out and they won't likely ship 'til Dec 05, which means at this point you probably won't have it in your hands 'til Dec 07.

On a slightly related note, while I was waiting for my phone to get updated, this teenage kid and his pop came in looking to get him a new phone and he wanted the Storm. The sales rep told him on top of the phone cost ($300+) there was a mandatory data package fee of $30 that would get added to his monthly bill. His pop freaked out and said it was stupid, but this kid was really set on having it, even after his pop told him it would be $360 of his allowance every year to have a phone that he wouldn't really take full advantage of. They even offered him a real good deal on the Dare, but he wasn't biting. Stupidass kid, I hope he buys it.

Yeah, all BB's require the data package because they're always connected. I've had a BB of some sort with Verizon for 3 years now. I've used all of them for email, and as a tethered modem. To me, it's worth the money because I use it a lot with my business. At this moment as I'm this me and warwagon are on a 5 hour roadtrip to pick up a boat from another WB.com member. Having the net on the interstate really makes the trip go quick.....

I went to get a Storm yesterday at 4, and they were sold out just like you guys said and will be in by December. I've been reading over at crackberry and all the reviews are mediocre. Not a lot of their issues apply to me or my uses so I'm gonna take my chances. I like the idea of having a better browser than the 8830 I have now and again, it helps with my business.

This one ended up costing me $100 total. $249, then $100 off for the "new every two", then instead of a mail in rebate for $50, they gave me an instant rebate of $50. My current phone is sold already and the buyer's giving me $100 for it.....

I played with one on display, and it seemed okay. I'm not a huge fan of touch-screens, but the letters on the Storm are bigger than the buttons on my 8830. I've got big fingers so that's pretty important. 1 of the supersalesmen were trying to sell one to a customer next to me and I overheard him say how the touchscreen actually clicks and you have to make it click to select that letter, that way you can still drag like the iphone does.

The main problem with the touchscreen keyboard on the storm seems to be the lack of predictive input or whatever you call it. With no keys to provide a tactile response, it's difficult to press the right letter all of the time. They should have developed some software that can figure out what you are trying to type if you accidentally hit an adjacent key. The iphone has it, and I'm pretty suprised it's not in the storm.

Not really predictive text, but software that's smart enough to figure out what you mean if you accidentally hit an adjacent key on the keyboard.

Looks like storms ordered now won't ship until the 15th of december. A last minute security issue with the firmware was supposedly the reason for the shortage on launch day. They are saying all storms had to have their firmware downgraded.

The verdict is still out..... In the first 10 minutes I hated it. My BB desktop software that was a few days old was obsolete. I spent 2 hours syncing it with the old one because my computer is slow as hell and I had to remove/reinstall a few programs. In the midst of all that the battery went dead and a lot of functions don't work when it's on the desktop charger.

*It's slow.
*You really need to learn the shortcuts because you can't just start dialing numbers without pressing a few keys first
*The sensor that changes it from landscape to portrait is slow. You can turn the phone sideways and it takes a good 5 seconds for it to recognize it.
*Touch screen is really tricky with big fingers. I'm not fat by any means, but I do have big hands and tough skin. I found myself hitting the wrong button a lot.
*There are 2 levels of touch I guess you could say. When typing, you can barely press the button you need. It doesn't select it, but does highlight it to show which key you're about to press. That way if you're on the wrong one, you can stop and not have to delete.

Overall it's a pretty decent phone. I'm not into the multimedia stuff, but I mostly use email, notepad, text, phone, and play teh hell outta some solitaire. The browser on this thing is pretty good too, but it's either zoomed out too far or in too far.

Sure you don't wanna buy mine Rolling Eyes

After screwing with it all night I wish I could just go get my money back. I can tell already my impatient ways will get the best of this phone.

Call me crazy, but that's what they're going for. I've already had an offer for $700, but turned it down because it was in teh first 12 hours.

When I listed it, there's a little box that estimates what it's worth or what they've sold for. The value was something like $50 to $3495 Shocked

I'm going back to my 8830 tonight. Even if the Storm, aka Epic Fail, doesn't sell. I guess it'll be a $100 desktop clock.

in contrast. their pearl (which I have) has worked flawlessly with one small issue.

When you turn it completely off, or even worse, the battery falls out while it's on, It will take FOREVER to start back up.

jonyb, why wouldn't you just return it? If it's within 30 days I'm pretty sure you can just take it back to the Verizon store.

This is the comment I was referring to.

To answer you though, no, I really don't care what you do with your phone.
