Hey i literally JUST got into wakeboarding...mostly because i moved less than 5min away from Ski Rixen, one of the pully cable wakeboard parks, so i was there last weekend and picked it up on a rental board pretty quickly, im pretty athletic so i usually pick up on stuff like this quickly, im not saying that to brag i just say it cuz i just bought a board that says is for "intermediate riders", and want to know if this was a good buy for me.

im 6'3 about 170 pounds, and have only ridin once but did well and want to get really into it...was this set-up a good choice for me, and was it good for the price?

heres what i ordered...the 139 length one

Nice! Ronix are coming out with some really good stuff. And many boards these days are changing the fins and rails to ease toeside edging, this sounds very much the the Hyperlite Jade for girls.

The only thing I would say, is that I would possibly have gone for the bigger size board because you're very tall and it would give you a bit more stability. But that's just a personal thing.

Ya i was kind of going back and forth about it as i was ordering it but from what i read the bigger ones are a little slower and since this one already has the 3-stage rocker going against it as far as speed i didnt want to slow it down anymore. But honestly i dont even fully understand the description of the board (still learning the terminology), what exactly is the description saying this board is made well for when it talks about toeside edge and stuff?

ecsdesignsvfx, actually a bigger board would float you more which would be faster. Not that I think it's a problem, I prefer shorter boards personally. A 139 is a little short for 6'3 but about right for 170 pounds. I also think the "speed" of a board is over-rated. Most time I am trying to minimize my speed so I don't go into the flats.

What it's saying with about the toe-edge is that the front of the board (the rail by your toes) is shaped at a sharper angle than the back. What this does is makes it easier to get a hard toe-side cut. Heel-side cuts are generally easier to dig in on because you just lean back against the rope.

The downside to the sharper toe rail is that it makes it easier to catch that toe-edge and face-plant. Sharper edges are a characteristic of a more advanced board though - allowing you to cut harder.

Thanks for the info, so since im a beginner and its a little more advanced of a board would i have been much better off getting the 144 instead of the 139?, i mean how "too short" is it for a 6'3, 170 pound rider? Is it like a "geeze that board is tiney for him"?

ecsdesignsvfx, no, it's definitely not tiny. It's really a personal preference. I would say a 139 at 170 pounds is right in the middle of the range. Personally, since I like smaller boards I would probably ride under a 139 at 170 pounds. At 6'3 you should be riding all the way out on your board - with your bindings mounted as far apart as you can go.

I'm 6'2 200 lbs and up until a few years ago I was riding a 136. Now I ride a 140. How deep you sink in the water depends on your weight - which will change the speed of the board. As far as height goes, you just want to make sure the board has posts wide enough for you. Most board companies have made their binding holes wider and wider. So you should be fine.

I don't know how all of that applies to cable riding though. I've only ridden a cable a handful of times and I've always used my slider board.
